No, ducting should not be connected to the Gable Mount Attic Ventilation Fan. Doing so can restrict airflow and impact the unit's performance.

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

It is not recommended to use power attic fans in conjunction with other exhaust methods, such as roof vents, as this can cause the fan to pull hot air back into the attic. Also, the gable vent or louver should be at least the same size as the fan to allow for proper airflow. These fans work very well. It helps if you have it wired to a switch that easy accessible so you can turn off the fan in the winter months. Our attic tends to stay warm even in the winter and the fans built- in thermostat may trigger the fan to run.

                    Quiet, Works, Works Quiet
I went up and checked the attic fan and found it was getting power, but not running. So I went to Home Depot and got this Master Flow EGV5 attic fan. Once I installed it and turned on the circuit breaker for it, I couldn't hear anything, either outside or inside the house and thought I had done something wrong (even though it is a simple installation and hookup). I actually had to go back up into the attic to look for myself. Yes, it was working fine. The noise from the old fan must have been the bearings going out. Anyway, the house is much cooler and the air conditioner doesn't have to work so hard now. Very pleased with this fan. I just hope it lasts as long as the old one.

Pros - It's quieter and much more effective at cooling the attic than the last one. I have some shroud in mine, since I didn't cut wood to go around it. I hear a gentle hum in the room directly below it, which is much better than the roar of the last one. Cons: -- The Electrical: 1. Aluminum wiring was used inside the thermometer box. I used Alumiconn AL-CU certified bolts to handle the hookup to the copper power line, which could be overkill. 2. The non-standard 3/4" hole for the electric line. I ended up finding a snap-tite 1/2" KO fitting, labeled 3/8 flex on the second try. None of sizes on the package match up to the hole size, but it made a perfect tight fit. Just to note I have a box of 3/8 non-metallic screw type connectors; they are too small and go right through the hole. I will leave the reliability for those writing the review on their second fan. Pictures from those lasting five years look like they worked harder than normal.

Great fan - works like a charm - very quiet
Thanks to the other reviewers who offered advice on how to install using a wooden platform vs. just attaching to studs. (It would not have reached anyway.) I think that is the secret to quiet operation. There is a bedroom just below and the fan runs well into the night and it can not be heard while sleeping. Unlike the the previous fan which was very loud! Very pleased with the purchase.

Solid unit. Quiet noise with a low deep hmmm. Much quieter then a AC condensing unit. Moves a lot of air. Dropped the temp in our 700 sq foot attic by 10 degrees in about 1 hour. Simple to install with the provided template.

                        Worked well for 6 years.
Replace old fan this unit in about 2014. (2200 sq.ft. attic) Noticed this summer wasn't working. Froze up. Probably worn bearing. Good calculation providing the 5 yr warranty. Going to buy another one just like it, nevertheless, because it will be easier to throw the new one into the existing drum.
