Has the switch issue been fixed on these? You say "will be fixed" -- can you confirm if the design flaw was fixed, or whether there is a permanent fix once it stops working?

Has the issue with the switch been fixed? For more than 30% or reviewers the switch broke. How about the speed dial that comes lose and change speed from vibrations only? Has that been fixed too? How do I know I get an upgraded tool if I buy one now?

Yes the power switch and at times the speed dial walks a bit. I sent it in for warranty repair waited like 2-3 and it was returned unfixed and not looked at at all. They told me that when I picked it up. So disgusted .

                      By|Jul 8, 2025

Yes, on/off switch has gotten harder to use and speed dial has no resistance so it adjusts unintentionally from the vibrations as you use it. Still a good tool, but needs improvements.

YES Switch was very difficult to slide since day 1. It completely crapped out today after very minimal use. Didn't register it when purchased 5 months ago. Just ate $100.00 NOT TASTY! Guess that's why it's usually on sale for $99.

                                        Switch is a poor design
Brand new out of the box and didn’t last one battery cycle  On off switch is almost impossible to move have to  Remove the battery to get it to stop then pry it to the off position with a screwdriver took it apart to try to get the rest of the day out of it to get my job done … made it sort of better  With a small file and some foil tape to made it slide better  But still randomly sticks almost solid.. junk do not buy  Sad because I’ve been years collecting ridgid tools and this  Thing just shows how “they don’t make em like the used to”  Don’t buy it ,

                                          Head
The removable head only has four pins, only three are used to hold the cutting blade. Most other tools use seven to hold the blade in place. When the tool vibrates at high speed the tool breaks apart where it is held in the head. The Ridgid is on the left Makita is on the right.

Absolutely horrible design. Power switch failure like many others on here. I have over 40 Ridgid tools which I solely use for home owner use but have started switch to red because of the frustration with the lack of quality. I went to the local tool repair place that the local Home Depot uses and have been waiting almost 9 months for a power switch that broke for no reason other then a poor design. I have the cheaper version as well but hate using Allen keys to change head out and same with my other corded. They need to make parts easier to get so you can just order stuff to the store rather than wait for crappy repair shops.

                                              Tool #2 broken
So overall the actually functionality of the tool is great. Doesn’t excessively vibrate. Can turn down the oscillations to start a cut. Simple blade attachment method. Feels solid and works really well. However, My first one went down in under a month with the toggle switch first becoming incredibly hard to press and then failing to turn on the tool. No big deal with the LSA just take it back and get a new one. Now time #2 the speed adjustment knob has fallen off.

OK, I really didn’t k ow how badly I have needed this tool throughout my adult life. I’ve always been handy and have done everything from HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and drywall work. This has been the tool I’ve missed having! Great for making accurate cuts in tight places where usually only a hand-tool and lots of strained labor would work. Reciprocating saws have their place but this tool is better and neater for many applications a reciprocation saw is used for. Love it.

This is a really solidly built tool, and does good work. It has a fairly wide range of oscillating speeds that you can adjust with a knob in the handle. Changing blades/attachments is quite easy--a flip of the lever on the handle and a flip of the knob on the business end is all that's needed. With the battery (not included) it does not weigh too much. I've used it to cut and sand some wood so far, and it is good at those jobs, getting into places you can't get conventional saws. The only negative for me is that the blades it comes with are pretty low-quality. But those are more of a bonus, and you can easily swap them out for higher quality attachments from a company like Freud.

The on/off button feature gives me a must have advantage of avoiding getting "Triger Finger" while operating this tool for long periods of time. [see photo #2] This multi-tool features a convenient tool free accessory change flip up lever makes switching accessories between applications easy. The Multi-Tool is compatible with most multi-tool accessories from other brands. Best of all, it's a part of the Ridgid's system of tools that all work on the same battery platform. If you are looking to get your first oscillating saw, this one is a great start. It is strong, sturdy, and has lifetime warranty when you register it on the Ridgid website. There are many things you can do with this tool if you are doing some DIY jobs or are doing any woodworking. Using the right blade for the job, you can remove tile grout, sand small areas with sandpaper pad or remove paint, cut insulation materials, pipes, wood, metal sheet, nails, plasterboard or drywall, plunge cut on wood boards, plywood, door trims for flooring, circular cuts on drywall with a round blade, cut carpet, or scrape various materials with the scraping blade. I had the previous version, jobmax oscillating saw for a long time, and this new max output upgrade addressed many points that I had noticed on the jobmax. First, the handle to take off and insert the blades on the jobmax was difficult to use, and the new release system on top is much better on this one. It can accept universal blades so you can use your existing blades. The on/off button on the top of the body is convenient to start the tool and the speed dial for me was better than a variable speed trigger that you would constantly need to hold. I tested with different oscillating speeds and even the slow setting is strong. It works fine with a 1.5ah or 2.0ah battery and doesn’t need a huge amp battery to use its whole capabilities. I like the small footprint and feel in hand, much smaller and lighter than the jobmax and still as strong. It has a nice rubber overmold and texture on the handle. You can also get it into tighter places easily with the small footprint and by rotating the blade. You can use it for small wood cutting jobs that are often in small enclosed spaces. You can also use it to cut drywall and it gives you a fast and accurate cut. It comes with a wood blade, sanding pad and a sample paper, and a half round blade for wood/drywall. It doesn’t come with a belt hook, but works with other Ridgid belt hooks. I keep it hanging on a pegboard with the belt hook. It is not too loud (louder than a regular drill on high speed setting), but you should still wear eye and ear protection. There is also not a lot of vibration even at the high speed settings and feels okay while using. The location of the LED light is well designed and illuminates the job location quite well. Overall, this is a great oscillating saw for various jobs that may come up around the house.
