here are a number of reasons you should always use a rug pad with your area rug. Safety: All rugs shift underfoot, including rugs with furniture placed on top of them. Cushioning: Foot traffic continually presses rugs down into the floor, which causes continual wear and tear on the rug’s back and pile. Adding a layer of padding helps cushion the rug and lesson pressure, helping to prolong the rug’s life. In addition, the extra padding helps deaden sound in the room.
