I'd like to lay some fiberglass screen on top of deck joists before deck boards go down to keep insects out of my room. Would it cause any issues with the composite decking?
    ByOct 3, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Tinner12002, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, this is not something that has been tested with our products, so we are unable to provide a recommendation or specific guidance regarding this application. A few things to keep in mind: Deckorators decking requires proper ventilation and drainage to help ensure long-term performance. Adequate drainage is important to prevent water from pooling beneath the deck. Be sure not to block the gaps between deck boards, as these gaps allow for proper airflow and water drainage. Additionally, follow all recommended joist spacing and installation guidelines for Summit decking. -Your Deckorators Team

Does the Summit line expand/contract the same as the Voyage line?
      ByAug 15, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Paul, Yes. Summit and Voyage decking are both manufactured with Deckorators' Surestone® Technology, so they have very similar low thermal movement characteristics. Both product lines are engineered for minimal expansion and contraction, helping maintain consistent board spacing and stability through temperature changes. As with any decking product, be sure to follow the installation instructions for proper gapping and fastening requirements. -Your Deckorators Team

What is the recommended way to cut these boards?
        ByAug 13, 2026
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hey Cutting, For the best results, use a sharp carbide-tipped general-purpose or combination blade with a positive rake angle. Deckorators recommends a 40T-80T blade for a 12" saw or a 24T-60T blade for a 10" saw, with a 60-tooth combination blade producing the best overall results in testing. Many installers prefer to turn the board upside down when making cuts, since the blade enters from the bottom and exits through the finished face, helping minimize any minor fraying on the visible surface. When cutting, make a smooth, swift and steady pass through the material rather than forcing the saw slowly through the board. Moving too slowly can create excess friction and heat, which may leave a rougher edge or increase the chance of minor material buildup along the cut. If a small fiber, burr, or thin thread of material remains after cutting, it can be easily trimmed away with a sharp utility knife. As a final best practice, square-cut both factory ends before installation, removing approximately 1/2" to 1" from each end to ensure clean, square edges. -Your Deckorators Team

The Summit Boulder Brown decking boards are said to have Surestone technology on the Deckorators website, but the Home Depot site for these boards make no mention of it. Does Boulder Brown sold at HD have Surestone or not? Why no mention at HD site?

            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hi Kevin, yes, the Summit Boulder Brown boards sold through Home Depot are made with Surestone technology. Deckorators states that all Summit Decking is manufactured with its Surestone mineral-based composite technology, and Boulder Brown is a Summit color. Home Depot simply describes the product as a mineral-based composite (MBC) deck board and highlights the performance benefits rather than using the Surestone trademark name. It's the same Summit product—the retailer's product page just uses different marketing terminology. -Your Deckorators Team

Can I drill pilot holes & screw them to my existing wood beams or joists?
              ByJul 19, 2026
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hello Steve, yes, you can drill pilot holes and screw Deckorators Summit composite decking directly into your existing wood joists, provided the framing is structurally sound and meets the required joist spacing. Our boards requires approved composite deck screws with two fasteners at each joist, and face-screwing is an accepted installation method for square-edge boards. Pilot holes are especially helpful near board ends to ensure clean fastening. Just be sure you're fastening into the joists, not the main support beams, and verify the joists are spaced no more than 16 inches on center for a standard residential installation. - Your Deckorators Team

Good value for the quality of composite board. We did run into some issues with width variances, but customer was happy with the end product. Has good grip also when wet.

Terrible quality control and frustrating customer service
I am extremely disappointed with the Deckorators Summit Composite Decking boards. For the price, I expected a durable, premium product, but that was far from what I received. First, the quality control from the factory is awful. My initial shipment included defective boards, and to make matters worse, the boards were not even uniform in size—some were noticeably different widths, making installation a total nightmare. When I reached out to deal with these issues, the customer service was horrible. Getting replacement boards approved and shipped was a hassle, and they took way too long to arrive, completely stalling my deck project. Now that the deck is finally put together, the performance isn't any better. The surface scratches way too easily—just moving patio furniture leaves noticeable marks. On top of that, despite claims about composite material heat resistance, these boards still get really hot under the sun, making it uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. Save yourself the headache, money, and time—look for a different brand. I would not recommend these to anyone.

                  Careful!... LOTS of Bowed Boards
I recently helped my in-laws build a pool deck in Chesapeake, VA. I am not from the area and, unfortunately, was not with them when they made their purchase. They'd used T--- composite deck boards before and liked the results, so in late May, they went to their local Home Depot (South Chesapeake, #4656) to choose a color, length, etc. While there, they purchased 67 lengths of 8ft composite board sitting on a rack in a color that closely matched their concrete pool deck. They had the boards delivered. When I arrived the following week, my father-in-law and I began setting 4x4 posts and framing the deck. When we were ready to begin decking, I removed the tarp covering the boards. I immediately noticed that the boards they purchased were NOT T--- boards, but Deckorators Composite Deck Boards (Summit 1 x 6 x 8 Terra Brown Square Edge). My in-laws were surprised as they'd specifically asked the HD associates in the Lumber/PRO area for assistance in buying T--- boards. As I only had a week available to assist, there was a brief debate about what to do. My mother-in-law did a quick Google search, which confirmed Deckorator boards were comparable to T---. The decision was made to use them. As we began to install them, we quickly noticed that very few of the boards were straight. In fact, at least 80% of the 67 boards they'd purchased were bowed/crowned, some up to 5/8" at 4 ft! And it wasn't a simple end-to-end bow/crown to bend out. For most of these boards, the first 6"-10" on each end appeared straight, so fixing the bow at the center forced each end out at a slight angle, further complicating each fix. I have never experienced this with T--- boards and can only assume it to be a Deckorators manufacturing defect. For one board in particular, we used 4 heavy-duty clamps (see pics) for every foot of distance just to straighten out its wild crown. We likely spent an extra full workday straightening out bowed deck boards. NOT fun. In addition, three (3) full boards were scratched/dented/mangled so badly that they could not be used. In the end, and after a lot of extra effort, we completed the pool deck. I had to leave, and my in-laws decided to go back to their Home Depot to complain, but management's initial response didn't give them much satisfaction. They left their contact info and are waiting for a response, and will decide later on whether to file a warranty claim.

Dear rosen68, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear about the frustration you encountered during your pool deck project. While our Summit decking is manufactured with Surestone® Technology and is designed to be highly stable, boards can occasionally develop some curvature during shipping, handling, or storage. If a board arrives with a curve, we recommend laying it flat on the deck surface and allowing it time to absorb heat; in many cases, the board will relax and return closer to its original shape depending on the severity of the curve. We are also concerned to hear about the damaged boards you received and the additional labor required to complete your project. We appreciate your detailed feedback and would welcome the opportunity to review this matter further. I researched and purchased 4 different privacy fences before finding this system. It is exactly what I was looking for. Very simple to drill the holes in my concrete patio and cut the boards to slide right in. Very sturdy as well.

Great deck boards. Home Depot does a bad job delivering them
The deck boards themselves are great, the problem is the way Home Depot delivers them. I ordered 40 boards, all of them were extremely dirty, and 4 of them had damage on the edges, with a few others having scratches. It seems like when they stack your order they just slap a stack together without any care to prevent damage. Plan on the ends having some sort of swelling or damage. Don’t count on using a full 16ft board end to end. You will need to cut about half and inch off to get a clean edge. Use an 80+ tooth saw blade. Ideally use a battery miter saw because they spin slower so less chances of melting. Don’t bother with a Trex blade or similar. I used Fiberon(Camo) hidden fasteners. Worked great.

Dear Dello, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you’re happy with the quality of the deck boards themselves, but we’re very sorry to learn about the condition they arrived in and the damage you experienced. That is not the experience we want for our customers, and we understand how frustrating it is to receive materials that require extra work before use. We appreciate you pointing this out and will share your comments regarding delivery and handling with our retail partner. Your installation tips are also helpful and we thank you for including them. Great budget composite boards
I just finished my install of the summit boards in glacier. The boards cut cleanly, all were longer than the described length and were fairly straight which simplified the installation. I was looking for a “budget” board that wouldn’t get too hot and this fit the bill. I purchased a comparable trex board in the same color and left both boards in direct sunlight for the day, along with a cedar board to compare temperature as this was a concern for my newborn. On a sunny, 82 degree day, the summit glacier maxed out at 110 degrees, the trex topping out at 122 degrees and the cedar coming in at 98 degrees. I am very pleased with the temp of the boards, the overall installation, light weight, no scallops and ease of installation.

Seemed fine, but I only used it to support my wooden deck joists. I cut them in four inch squares, laying flat on my concrete patio. The joists rest on top of them to keep the wood dry.
