Product Overview

No more frozen toes. Most birds being covered in their own down blanket lose a lot of body heat through their feet. In extreme cold weather, the K&H Thermo- Chicken Perch can be invaluable. The gentle warmth provided by the perch aids in the retention of body heat. The perch warms the entire body utilizing the bird's own circulation system. Dual internal thermostats regulate the perch to the perfect temperature, day and night. Warm perch equals happy birds. Cord length is 5-1/2 ft. and perch is available in 2-sizes. MET listed. 1-year limited warranty.

It hasn't turned on.
I keep going out to check. I'm cold, the girls are cold, the perch is cold. It's below freezing and it still doesn't turn on. The outlet is fine, but no warmth from the perch.

Good product but some revisions would make it even better
I never could find the information r3egarding what ambient temp turns the unit on and when it is warm enough to turn itself off. I wish it came on earlier, before it was so cold that your hands almost freeze when touching the cold metal perch, thus drawing off warmth into the (metal) perch. I assume its the same for the birds feet. Very cold to touch when not "on" in cold weather! That can't be comforable for the birds, until it turns on. I can't help but think it would suck out the heat from the bird/s feet until their feet warm up the metal perch and/or it comes "on". ANother improvement would be to add a small LED light to see when it was 'on" vs "off", it visually would be nice to not have to go over and touch it every time to check if t is working and since I don't know the specs of when it goes on and off, I have to touch it everytime. The perch itself would be improved if could be rotated to the flatter side facing up, so my biggest chickens wouldnt slip so easily, however it seems they got used to it over a period of time, but they do like wider, flatter perches that aren't so slippery. Overall it is great way to keep the girls warm and is a nice perch for night even on the warmer nights when it is not turning on and heating. It is a nice alternative to a panel heater and less wattage usage too.

Thank you for your feedback! The Thermo-Chicken Perch will not operate when ambient air temperatures are above 35 degrees. In extreme cold, your perch may feel cool to the touch. This is because extremely cold air will "wick" the heat off the steel surface faster than it can accumulate. Be assured, the internal airspace of the perch is still a toasty 99 degrees or so. This warmth will wick through into the bird's feet when roosting. You can test this by wrapping a cloth around a portion of the perch in cold weather. After a few minutes, feel under the cloth to experience the warmth of the perch. We will be sure to pass the rest of your helpful on to our product team!
Sturdy perch; this will save my chickens' toes!
Well-built; simple set-up. I've noticed Chickens already seeking it out on chilly fall mornings. This will be a real comfort thru cold Iowa winters!
