Q:Can it also hold maroon hand sanding pads? For example like these ones: https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-3-7-8-in-x-6-in-x-5-16-in-9-84-cm-x-15-2-cm-x-0-79-cm-Very-Fine-220-Grit-Hand-Sanding-Pads-2-Pack-7447/301117170

Answer This Question

A:  The 3M block is designed to accept sandpaper, which is held by bending the ends of the paper around the ends of the block and clamping it in place. If the sanding pads you have can bend and if they will fit into the clamps, then they might work with this block.

A:  Yes it can hold it but with the rigorous sanding motion the pad will slip off. The way that block works is that its a rubber block with slits at the top and bottom. The slits have grooves to hold the sandpaper sheet in place. Other pads will work in a pinch but it is ideal to get the right size so the pad doesn't slip

A:  Standard paper 8 x 11 paper. tear them across the short side to get four equal pieces that fit your pad with no waste.

A:  Yes the sandpaper is sold by Home Depot, I got mine just beside the area of the block. It is just a little oversized but fits the block well.

        by|May 15, 2019

A:  The block holds 1/4 sheet at a time. Simply purchase the standard full size sheets. Fold in half, tear or cut and in half again tear again. Results in 4 pieces slightly wider than the block and the correct length to fit under cleats.

A:  You get full sized sheets of sandpaper and cut it in quarters. Cheaper that way. Fold the paper in 1/2 and cut it in half. Then do the same with the 1/2 sheets as well. Voila, you have paper for this block.

              Very poorly made
Pins that hold sandpaper are too loose, will not close properly. One is used and pins are very loose as not to even hold sandpaper. Please look at other products and do not purchase these. I can’t believe 3M made this. These need to be taken off the shelves.

Decent sanding block with one flaw
You have to be an octopus to load the sandpaper! The rubber is kinda hard to hold back while trying to align the sandpaper on the metal pins. I accidently broke one of the pins loose trying to load it but it doesn't affect the functionality - theres two more pins on that side to hold the sandpaper. If only I had another hand or two to help get everything aligned correctly! Once you get the paper loaded (make sure it's centered and taut) it works well. As other reviewers have said, its easiest to buy full sheets (9" x 11"), fold them in half, cut, then fold each piece in half again and cut. You should end up with four pieces roughly 2 3/4"wide and 9" long. The resulting strips fit perfectly on the block.

Ain’t nothin’ like the old school....
Why spend 2x (or more!) for fancy sanding block tools that have soft, spongy, hard to grip handles that require expensive, sometimes hard to find, hook-and-loop backed sand paper squares???? 3m has been making this style of sanding block tool for decades and for good reason. It works and works well.
