I paint a lot in my home, & my tip to keep your rollers & brushes ready for use, is to wrap in a plastic bag & store out of heat, I also read that putting in the fridge is ok but the bags work so well, my Hubby gets the daily newspaper so I use those wrap nice & tight, best of luck BOD

Best roller and brush to use to refinish a bathroom tub Thanks

Asked by: Gary
The answer depends on the manufacturer's recommendation for the specific refinishing product you purchase, so be sure to check the carton/container before you start. That being said, most manufacturers recommend a foam brush, high quality paint brush and/or a high quality, short-napped roller (like a 1/4in nap or 3/8in nap). For the roller type, be sure to choose either high-density foam or a woven fabric for best results. 4in or 6in mini rollers will be the easiest to work with on a project like this. Thanks,

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Helpful But Not Great I was painting my kitchen cabinets. I told the sales associate I didn't want roller marks. I was going for more of that factory sprayed look. She recommended this roller made for this application. The roller ended up pulling little dimples in the paint and leaving the roller lines. It was better than the orange peel look of a traditional roller but definitely not what I wanted. I then back brushed the rolled paint with a high quality Purdy brush. That gave me the smooth look I was going for. Moral of the story....you can apply the paint quickly with the roller but if you want the roller marks gone, back brush it with a quality brush.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never ever again I am dedicated Home Depot customer, make no mistake. I've been using 4" foam roller around my house for decades. Last week my last roller fell apart after 2 years of service and I did pay a visit to HD for a replacement. The current 4" roller with a high density foam was a worst roller I've ever used. 50% of the rolls were freely sliding off the holder, when I was choosing in a store. Found decent couple, started working. The holder fits into the roller's inserts too tight, with feelable friction. Instead of rolling, roll slides on the painting surface leaving the slid marks. The way the product was packed for sale did not let to try the rolling action on the nearest wall. This roller was only one brand of 4" size available in the painting section. Got to shop somewhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool Like any tool, this roller takes some practice. My first use wasn’t very good but I stuck with it. I have used the microfiber roller with oil based paints, primer latex and especially useful with finish coats of latex. Take your time, if it skids lighten your touch and slow down. Really learn to use this and it will surprise you.

It was a 6 panel door. 1 side I used a brush. But that took too long, it took me about 2 hours to paint it, because of all the crevices around the panels. So I brought this. It took like 20 minutes to paint the other side. The paint went on smooth, but it wasn't rolling. It was more like just pushing it. It used much more paint then it did when I was brushing. But it did come out good like that. Was able to easily get in all the crevices. It's like the hole is too small. It needs to be maybe 1/16 inch bigger. It was a waste. Should have gotten a better brand for a little more money. Being that it was used, I know I won't be able to return it and get my money back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT smooth This roller is advertised to give a smooth finish, it definitely does NOT. I used it with Behr Premium semi-gloss paint on kitchen cabinets very neatly and carefully, and they look like they have alligator skin. I wasted the work, the paint, the time, and now I have a disaster on my hands. I have to figure out how to get a smooth surface back onto my cabinets that now have very rough textured paint dried all over them, I mean it's almost like an intentional crackle effect, and it's a lot of cabinets. After the roller produced the bumpy surface, I tried painting over them with a brush the next day, hoping that would level out the bumps, but it did not improve it at all as far as I can tell, it still looks just as bad. I am experimenting with sanding the paint on 2 of the doors to see if that is going to smooth it out enough to repaint (with a brush), but right now it's kind of fresh to sand. I hope I don't have to strip them, which would be a huge mess because they are installed and I'd have to do it in the kitchen, working with solvent over the gas stove, etc., and more time and money. Getting my money back on the roller will do nothing to recover the time, effort, and paint I used, not to mention aggravation over a failed project I thought was going to look so nice. If they want to keep selling this, they need to at least change the wording on the package, it's just wrong. I used the roller on closet doors that were laid flat on paint cans for support and those turned out better, not super smooth but nothing like the alligator skin on my cabinets. I don't think the problem is the vertical surface of the cabinets because I pulled the drawers out of the cabinets and did the drawers standing on their end so the face of the drawer was a horizontal surface, and they have alligator skin too.
