Light Strong Great All Around Shovel. Light wood handle with gritty no blister finish. Stamped one piece round point metal blade w/ typical snug fitting socket w/ a single rivet. No give or flex noticed prying rocks, pavers or digging dirt or crushed stone. Nice size shovel with great angle for picking crushed stone off the ground without getting much dirt. After a few weeks DIY yard maintenance shovel performed well. Handle a tad short, uniform diameter except for tapered fit in socket. Hole for hanging. Small but usable step on either outside edge of blade. Overall a good long handle shovel for homeowner use.

GREAT SIZE AND HEIGHT FOR A WOMAN. I really enjoyed using this 43 inch long digging shovel. The height was good, the weight was not too heavy or unwieldy for my small frame and it was so easy to maneuver and dig tree holes or flower beds. The one negative I noticed right away when I pulled it out of the box it came in was that the handle is rough and feels like I'll get splinters unless I wear gloves. A padded handle would have been great.

This unbranded 43 inch long wood handle digging shovel is lightweight for light gardening jobs and weights 2.93 pounds. The hardwood handle is varnished and the shovel has a fully tempered 7.9” carbon steel coated blade. There is a hole in the handle so you can hang it up. Lightweight is the key word for this shovel for this shovel, as it can be used for loose soil. If you want to use the shovel in more solid ground and have it last I suggest upgrading to a more substantial better grade shovel, but this is an inexpensive alternative and it is very compact and you can keep it in your truck or car for immediate use.

Light is the big word here. The shovel is quite light but it is well-made with a few small, clever details which I like in its construction. The black metal blade is light, the handle is long enough, and the handle mount goes up high on the handle which to me means better weathering of light to intermediate use when shoveling or prying out a small stone or cutting a small root. Plus the handle has a hole in it for hanging on a nail. I really like that detail. Of course I have another shove. I have a few and my philosophy is I want the shovel to follow me and me not follow the shovel. This means I like having a shovel in the back of the property, in front, and on the side. That way I do not have to walk far nor play hide and seek with just one shovel. Even my wife commented on how light it is and how well it works in her hands and she has never said anything like that about tools or shovels. Plus, the shovel blade point is nice and sharp. Having a few shovels around means you are not wearing out the one shovel you have through use. I do not know what the handle's wood is; the shovel comes from Brasil. I like it. I am going to get another for the truck. While driving, I sometimes see wild flowers so I dig some up. A great tool!

This is a light duty shovel that is priced right. I compared this Home Depot branded shovel to my Razor-back shovel that has provided me service for over a decade. There really is no comparison. The Razor-back is much sturdier, with a thicker steel blade, longer handle, and stout gooseneck. But this Home Depot shovel has its place. First you can’t beat the price ($9 at the time of this review), which is about a third of the cost of the Razor-back. The smaller size and lighter blade makes it easier to handle for my wife. It’s fine for light gardening tasks and moving small loads of dirt. Just don’t expect it to handle compacted soil or pull strongly on the handle for leverage. It will likely break. In short you get what you pay for. Still this shovel meets expectations at this price and gets a “C” grade.
