What is the stress strength of the wrecking bar

Asked by: ae954426
We used the "deck wrecker" while dismantling a large plank frame/post frame barn. The handle is long enough to apply sufficient leverage to pull wide board roof sheathing and barn board siding fastened with 8d and 10d common nails. (Rusty and anchored in old growth Douglas Fir. It was also useful in starting to loosen 2x12 plank stall boards fastened with 20d nails, also rusty. Where the "deck wrecker" is most effective is loosening 1x8 shiplap flooring. Although the design allows the tool to easily straddle doubled current dimension 2x floor joists, the jaws are somewhat tight for doubled old dimension materials. The jaws, fingers, seem to be designed for boards under 8". If you are working with wider materials you may need to complete the pull with a bar that you can work further into the space you created between the joist and floor board. You will also learn to develop a "touch" regarding where and pressure necessary to "pop"/loosen the salvage material. Our "deck wrecker" did not sustain any damage to the handle regarding bending. At times my son and I would really put all of our strength and body mass (265 lbs. +) into pulling on the end of the handle. I would purchase this tool again if I lost the current one.

Will it work on screwed down Deck boards

Will it work on screwed down Deck boards
Asked by: charlie
I think a lot would depend on the condition of the screws and how deep there in the wood. You can generate a lot of force with this tool so I would imagine it would work on screws. I would be a little concerned that you might tear out some of the wood, more so than you would if it were nailed.

will it pull up decking that has been screwed down

will it pull up decking that has been screwed down
Asked by: Ralph
Absolutely. Mu son and I ripped off all of my 16 ft by 75 ft deck that had been screwed down in about 5 hours. You can rotate the head of the tool to help you get the best leverage for your situation.
