I figure i will be running 180 watts of low voltage through 225 ft if this cable do i need larger wiring than 18 gauge? will larger wire give me brighter lights?
Asked by: rocket
The wire should be fine for a lot of small low wattage bulbs. You may have to check the output of the power transformer to see if it can supply enough current. If it is short on power the lights will not be as bright as having a fewer number of bulbs.

Can this be used for a small house going from the inside breaker box to the main breaker box outside

Asked by: Melisa
This roll of "low voltage cable" is designed for a low voltage power supply transformer available from Home Depot along with a variety of lighting options. Be sure to determine the number of lights, their required total voltage requirement to select the correct low voltage power supply. I would suggest placing the transformer close to the outdoor electrical outlet, connecting the cable to the transformer, laying out the line consistent with placement of the lights of choice, then connecting the lights. Transformers are two types: Electric eye to come on at dusk w/ settings for number of hours of operation and the other is a timer w/ selection of time to activate and separate shut off time. These are easy to install and pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it. Hope this helps you.

How many connector in this cable?

Asked by: Manny
Two conductors, or wires, but connectors? Do you really mean connectors or conductors? There's no connectors, you have to supply your own.

On the cable itself, it engraves a rated of 300V, why is this be called Low Voltage? What factor does it have that lower it's grade for it to only to be use with low voltage system? 300V is above most AC outlet. Is there something i need to understand before using this with at 120VAC outlet, under 1Amp current draw, like an a few 10W LED @120VAC bulb?

You're right, this is actually super thick insulation, rated for 300 volts. I guess that extra thickness may make it safer if squirrels bite it, or if it is burried and gets hit by a shovel, but it's FAR, FAR larger than 18 Gauge landscape wire usually is, and won't fit into the insulation piercing connectors that people usually use for 18 Gauge wire.

75 ft. 18-Gauge Low Voltage Cable is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.

If you're really doing low-voltage wiring, you're gonna hate this product. Normal 12, 16, and 18 gauge low-voltage landscape wiring has standardized cable size to fit landscape wiring connectors. This has EXTREMELY thick insulation covering those little 18-Gauge wires, making it as big as a 12 gauge landscape cable. It's not gonna fit in any 18-Gauge connectors which pierce the insulation due to it's huge size. This is okay if you're wiring up a 120-volt floor lamp. You may want that extra insulation thickness to protect the cat from gnawing through to the 120 volt AC. I see why they sell this special order. If people saw it before they bought it, they would pass.

I bought this cable for my landscape lights for a short run. these will not work on long run greater then 75ft because you will see voltage drop (not good for lights) so don't think you can buy 2 or 3 of these and splice them together to make it work. if you have long run then you need thicker gauge cable. this worked for me great as I had a short run and they work as designed. I buried them in ground and no issues. I am pleased with it and do recommend it. Great price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow great deal Caught this at 5 $ but still double the price is still better than anything u can find on amazon. Worked like a charm, along with rest of Westinghouse products. Shame they're not sold in store or have more inventory on most of the lighting products.

The adequate length, quality recognized in name Westinghouse and overall value prompted me to order 2 rolls to keep on hand for future outdoor light needs. I have flower beds and trees I plan to highlight in the fall when the weather is cooler. I just couldn't pass up this offer from my favorite source of materials, Home Depot.

This roll of wire worked perfectly for my new addition of outdoor landscape lights. It was pre-wired with cable end connectors that fit right on the power unit and had a terminator on the other end. Good quality wire; flexible and worked well with the connectors on my Patriot brand lights. A good value for the price.
