How many bricks do I need to cover a space 15ft x 15ft patio?

Asked by John January 20, 2016

Answers

Brick sizes are nominal. Standard brick dimensions are 3 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/2". Therefore, 3.5"/12"*7.5"/12"=0.182 sq. ft. per brick. 15'*15'= 225 sq. ft.. 225 sq. ft./0.182 sq. ft. = 1236 bricks. A standard pallet of bricks contains 500 bricks and weighs 2500 lbs. Order 3 pallets or 1500 bricks and have them delivered. Problem solved. You're welcome.

What is the efficiency of this brick and does it need a heatsink?

I have received a pallet of these bricks and average efficiency was 100%. Input wires were applied via battery clips to the input end and the same at the output end. Current and voltage was monitored at each end. 48VDC was applied at the input end and result in the output end was 0.0VDC and 0.0ADC. Input current was also 0.0ADC. Since no power was dissipated by the brick they can claim 100% efficiency.

How many bricks per pallet?

It varies depending on the manufacturer. Pacific Clay's common bricks are 550 per pallet. Other numbers given here are all reasonable, most anything in the 500 - 600 range is reasonable.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer Masoud, Thank you for asking if the 8 in x 2-1/4 in x 4 in Clay Paver can be used in a driveway application. This clay paver is NOT suitable for driveways and should be used in walkways & patios with pedestrian use only. Perhaps you can look at a similar product made from concrete such as the Holland 4 in x 8 in Red Charcoal Concrete Paver Store Sku 855492 which is suitable for driveway applications. Thank you

All in all it's just another brick in the wall

I cranked my favorite album, laid bricks and built a wall that turned out well. The bricks I got are actually 8x4, so they work for paving without gaps and some bonds. But if you're doing double Flemish bond or some other bond with bricks in both stretcher and header position, you'll need a different brick - one that's has a width that's a mortar join less than 1/2 the length. Some buyers report finding 8 x 3 3/4" bricks while others report getting 8x4 bricks. So make sure you are getting what you need.

I r&r'd a 10'x15' section of my driveway replacing the fugly concrete pad with these brick as pavers. Pavers were on my wishlist, then a camera inspection of my sewer lines revealed I had an imminent sewer line backup from root intrusion... providing my motivation to get this done. The bricks are uniform in color and size and they are going to look used soon enough. Each brick weights app 5# and there are 595 on a pallet. One pallet hauled nicely in my 3/4 ton. HD did a great job splitting my workorder. With the trench for the sewer line replacement and code requiring sand, then dg. I compacted an 8-10" dg base, then 1" sand to lay the brick. The driveway has a slope which I rounded vs. a single plane. I used my grinder with a diamond blade to cut and go around the newly installed sewer cleanout. I finished the job with Quickrite medium sand which fell into the gaps nicely using a push-broom. With permit for the sewer line, this project was just under $2,500 for materials and dump/recycle fees, jack/compactor rental.

happy with end result
We used these for our 300 sqft patio and are very happy with the result! We didn't seem to have any issues with the size, they were all pretty much exactly 8x4 inches and a 90 degree herringbone pattern worked perfectly. These clay pavers are beautiful and look much more classy than the cement pavers, though i had to knock them down a star because they do tend to chip a little on corners and edges when using a mallet to tap them into place. It doesn't bother me too much and adds a little character.

Ordering was easy. Delivery was prompt with the pallet placed gently where I requested. Bricks are nominally 4” wide; actual width is a bit less.
