Check your filters....you may need to replace them. Hard water build-up can reduce moisture.

Have you changed out the filters? If the filters are plugged it won't work as well.

3 Gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1,250 sq. ft. is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great and is simple to set up. This little unit really puts out the humidity! I was very impressed with how well it worked and it doesn't take up very much room either. I've used Essick products in the past and they last a long time. I gave my brother my old one (a larger unit) several years ago after I used it for 5-6 years and it's still working great! Before I purchased this unit, I went back and forth on whether I wanted to get a unit that was filter free, as that's the only drawback to owning a unit like this, but after reading the reviews of the filterless units and the time spent cleaning and filling them and the reliability issues, I finally decided to stick with what I know works. The little bit of money you spend for filters far outweighs the time spent cleaning the other units in my humble opinion. As they say, time is money, and who's not pressed for time these days? You can't beat this little unit for the money.

It didn't take long for the humidity level in our home to rise up with this. I love that it has four fan speeds and I am able to keep it on two which is very quiet. My plants really are loving the added humidity!!!

I live in a 230 sq. ft single room cabin and this humidifier is not able to maintain adequate humidity. I bought this because I live in a location where summertime humidity can drop below 20% (today 19%). I own several high quality musical instruments that require a consistent humidity level of 40-50% to prevent cracking and other damage to the wood. I have been running this humidifier all day on its highest fan setting (which is very loud!), and I have not been able to get the humidity above 35%. If it cannot humidify my 230 sq. ft. house, it certainly can't humidify the 1,250 sq. feet it claims. Oh, and I should mention the room humidity indicated on my unit's display is inaccurate. Right, now the unit is displaying 45% in the room, but I have 2 other hygrometers in the room showing the humidity at only 32%.

I was happy I was getting quite nice humidity. Then for a time it just didnt put out anything to speak of. Recently I noticed that the output was way up again. And monitoring the rooms with a hygrometer it showed good humidity. Then I decided to check the humidity on my weather app. The humidity in the room was just what the humidity outside was. I think it is a useless item. It does nothing to add any significant boost to the humidity in my environment. Sorry I waited so long to give it a chance. Now I don't know if I can return it. I do have a service contract. Maybe I can trade up to something that works. Don't bother with this item.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Essick in general seems to have control issues We bought an Essick humidifier from Lowes. The mechanicals - blower, wick, filter - all seem to work just fine. No issues. However, after a week, it stopped working unless you jiggled the cord on which the humidistat is mounted. Seems like an odd place to put it, but in any case, it was loose or otherwise intermittent. We returned it and they didn't have any more in stock. Went to Home Depot and bought this one. Works fine until it reaches the set point and then turns on and off every 5-10 seconds. The internally mounted humidistat (not on the cord like the other Essick model) seems to be in the air flow from the humidifier, and so when it senses it's dry, it turns on, and when the unit blows moist air, it senses that and turns off. There's no "hysteresis" i.e. if you set it to 50 it should turn off at 55 and turn on at 45 so that it doesn't do what it's doing - switching on and off repeatedly. Returned this one and now the dry season here - winter - is over and we'll do it all again in the fall but will look for a different brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little humidifier I used this to replace a tower style humidifier made by the same company. That unit has 2 side tanks which had to be removed to fill and were akward to replace. This can be refilled easily by just pouring water trough the top grate on either side of the fan assembly. The lowest speed is quiet enough and can keep the humidity at the setting I prefer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I JUST BOUGHT A 2ND ONE OF THESE..... An evaporative humidifier is simply a wick or wicks, a water tank, and a fan. That is it. This unit, in a way seems like it is sort of cheesy or too simple. But that is the beauty of it. Simple to use, simple to fill, simple to clean, and a really effective wicking system with a huge water tank. I purchased a different tower style humidifier in-store and will return it. Why? it only puts out 1/2 the amount of humidity for the same price. This unit lacks a timer or shut off when empty. No biggie. It does have a set control that would allow it to shut off when it reaches a certain humidity level, but that feature is just annoying. On/off, on/off, on/off, etc. So I figured out that using the fan to control the amount of humidity is the better option. I compared the humidity level coming out of this unit using a humidistat vs. the one I'm going to return. I found this one produced about 75% humidity. The one I'm returning put out maybe 30% humidity. It appears to me the wicks in the one I'm returning just don't wick very well which means the fan cannot push out that much humidity. And the fan is weak on the one I'm returning. This is simplistic...the cover sits on a round plastic plate, that sits on the two filters with a plastic frame around them, which sit in some slots, and they absorb the water as you put the water in a big tub. But you know, it works. It isn't a quiet as the unit I'm returning but the one I'm returning cannot move the humidity level in a room. This unit is really easy to clean. Dump the excess water, reassemble, and allow it to run. It will naturally dry the wicks and the inside of the unit. Then you can sanitize. I have been using the anti-bacterial liquid with this which makes the water smell clean. This is the one to buy. Easy, simple, and not outrageously expensive.
