Q:Is this two-sided? my fireplace is open on both sides. It separates the room.

Q:The 18" has a width of 20" and the 24" has a width of 29". My fire box has a front of 35" and a back of 22" and a depth of 23". Placing the log set in the middle of the 23" depth I would have exactly 29" side to side that would have no clearance.

Q:My logs were burning and the flame and pilot went out but there was still gas flowing that set off my NG alarm in the room. Shouldn't the valve automatically shut/close when the pilot light goes out?
Note: electric switch provided attached to turn on/off

It creates a pretty great looking fire. The photos on the Home Depot listing do not match the actual product, and frankly don't do it justice in terms of how it looks when it's burning so I've added a video here. Be prepared to hire a plumber to hook it up, as the instructions insist on professional installation and for good reason. Once it's connected to your gas line it's a matter of setting up the grate in the right location over the burner (which is guesswork until you see if you like how it burns) adding sand and rock wool and stacking the logs correctly. You can do these parts yourself. The instructions are not written or illustrated clearly in many ways, so this slowed down the process. For example there are poorly photographed and printed views of the sand and rock wool installed in the burner pan which don't look like anything at all, and then a note: "Use caution so lava rock does not get into the air mixer..." I puzzled over this since there had been no mention of lava rock up to that point. It's not till many steps later on the next page where it explains what to do with the lava rock. So without going through every example I'll just say that the instructions can be hard to follow. But the bottom line as you can see on my video, is that it burns beautifully and the rock wool glows like real embers. Turning it on and off is as easy as touching a switch, and the flames are adjustable and can go quite high if you want them to. Overall I'm very pleased.

This American Gas Log model Tahoe Blaze 18" Vented Natural Gas Fireplace Logs has a very pleasing look. After installation the fire even crackles! Almost feels like the real thing.
Be aware that the burner assemble come set for Right Hand gas supply, which became an issue for us. No guidance or instructions provided on how to deal with Left side gas supply. Finally, spoke with a live person who guided us to purchase a longer gas line so as to connect the gas from the right side of this set to the left side where the gas line is. You have to make sure that you are using a gas line that can handle more than 74,000 btu of heat inside the fireplace. One gas vendor tried to sell me a rubber hose telling it should be okay-NOT!
The down side is that all the assembly wiring is visible and we didn't have enough rocks (that was supplied in the packaging) to cover all the exposed wires. I think the exposed wiring and assembly destroys the beautiful look.

The 18” Tahoe Blaze Natural Gas log set comes with gas burner, on/off safety pilot valve, log switch, grate, logs, sand, glowing embers, lava rock and gas connections. Premium ceramic logs are cast from real wood and hand painted for ultimate detail. Heat Output for the logs is 74,000 BTU/hour. The gas log set must be operated with a flue, and in open position, always during operation. Our home is total electric so converting the electric logs we currently use to the Natural Gas fireplace logs will require a professional installation. We have a natural gas line to our home, but we cannot safely complete this installation ourselves. We are looking forward to the heat output from our fireplace since the electric logs we presently use don’t have any heat output. After last season with a loss of power for a few days this installation will be a needed back-up for heat.

Nice appearance
