How do I drill into my bathtub? It's porcelain over a cast iron tub

Asked by: Lenny
I purchased a 4 piece Bosch Glass and Tile drill bit set, it has the two size bits you will need. Use the 5/16" for drilling into the tile on the walls and use the 1/8" bit to drill into the tub. ( NOT 5/16" Like theinstructions state.

Tub is 60" so this 48" fixed glass/door leaves about a foot unprotected, as planned. We used a waterproofing system under all tile so we are not overly concerned about water. First, let me say that the unit is well-made and very heavy. Two person minimum, three person ideally, job. We are experienced DIYers, but we still took two half-days to install it. We spent the first one very careful determining the diamond drill points for the fixed glass mounts as we didn't want any tile damage. We used laser levels to ensure everything was perfectly square and vertical/horizontal. It is essential that the wall/tub is square. We needed a 5/16" diamond drill for the wall mounts. The bottom, tub mount required a 1/4" diamond drill. We mounted everything into the wood studs except for the cross-brace. However, amazingly to me, the plastic anchors alone seemed to be sufficient. We bought longer stainless steel screws to ensure that the studs were engaged. On the glass door, we used wood wedges and towels to accomplish the correct alignment of the door. We used a little blue locking thread stuff on the door/hinge screws to avoid future issues. The instructions were fairly clear. We effectively swapped Step 2 and Step 3. The only real confusion we had was on a clear plastic seal strip. It is mentioned on the parts list, but we couldn't find any mention of where to install it. We installed it on the door side of the fixed glass. It ends up underneath the door's clear plastic seal. It seems correct. There is a chance that it should have gone between the fixed glass and the wall tile, but the instructions say to caulk that area, and the bottom of the fixed glass. The door sweep seal (bottom) controls the stopping of the door, i.e., it stops where you leave it. The hinges do not control the door stop points, except at the extreme. Some have mentioned that the door drips. We are using a near vertically down rainshower head so we don't have much water on the door. We really like the unit and it really makes the room.

One thing that is annoying is that this brand has their logo dead center on the glass door! It can't be removed from what I can tell its etched in. They should have placed it in a less prominent place like the bottom corner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge regrets with this door It looks nice on our tub. That’s all I can say about it. It’s frameless so the glass wall holds the hinged door, right? Open the door outward when you’ve finished showering in the tub, and all the water that accumulated on the glass rolls down and onto the floor when the door is opened. There’s nothing to catch the water. We’re stuck with this door now, so it’s a bummer to have a pool of water on the floor after a shower. Worse is needing a bath towel on the floor to wipe it up. It’s a lot of water on the floor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These frameless shower doors are gorgeous. My Wife and I just love them and would recommend them to others. The hinges are stainless steel, very heavy and they shine like mirrors. The glass is great quality and router edges are nice. It took me about 5 hours to install the doors with my Wife helping out for about half that time. With all these good things, I can only give these frameless shower doors a 4. The instructions have several issues and I had to read and reread them several times to figure out how to install the doors. Steps 2 and 3 need to be reversed. Step 2 has us marking the wall and them drilling holes in the wall for the wall brackets. Step 3 has us leveling and lining up the stationary glass with the wall brackets on them. I switched steps 2 and 3. Step 2 tells us to set the wall brackets aside, but they are attached to the stationary glass, I removed the wall brackets and that was not right. I put the wall brackets back on the stationary glass. The instructions say to use the clear rubber gaskets but they provide paper gaskets. Rubber gaskets would look much better. I included pictures to show first how well the doors were packaged. The next pictures show the installed doors. Final advice, make sure you have the 5/16 inch and 1/8 inch cement bits if you need them.

Not only did the door come with a branded logo that can't be removed, but the "chrome" finish is rusting within two weeks of use. The vinyl strip came off within two weeks of use. I need to pay my contractor to remove this door, re-install a new one, and we might even have to replace the tile that was drilled into for this door. All in all a giant nightmare, and easily the worst purchase I made for my remodel. Stay away from Anzzi products.

I thought this was going to be just what I wanted, 3/8" thick glass, contemporary design, good price. And it is EXCEPT, there's a huge Anzzi Herald logo on the swing door, exactly at eye level that does not come off! What?? Who needs to see that every day. It's installed, since no one imagined it wasn't a removable sticker. Really worth mentioning. Not happy.

I was surprised how heavy the glass panels are. When got it home I realized the door only opens outward creating puddle on the floor. Also, I have a toilet with a comfort height seat that makes opening the door all the way a little concerning. You really need a second helper to install this as the manufacturer states. I am not clear on the instructions as they seem slightly in error. My biggest fear is the weight of these doors on my wall and having to drill into the tub. Unfortunately, looks great but I couldn't rate it more than average..

The three stars I gave were for the quality of this product, I was very pleased how nice it looks, the 3/8" thick glass and all the hardware that came with it. The installation did require two people to install the stationary glass to the brackets and the door onto the hinges. But overall the installation went pretty well. it only took about 2 1/2 hours to install. Now the cons of the product and why I did not give it 5 stars that it would have received. 1. My biggest concern is that the hinges do not have any kind of limiter / stops that stop the door from continuing into the tub, it should stop even with the stationary glass. And from swinging past a 90 deg in the open position. I did install two rubber door stops to help with these issues, but its still not right. 2. The door will easily swing open if slightly bumped while taking a shower ( this happened to me ) 3.The vertical door seal is warped at the top and bottom, this causes a water leak issue. 4. Both door seals are longer than the glass, now I need to find something that will cut them to the correct length. 5. I am not happy with the wide gap between the stationary glass and the door. Seems to me if the gap was smaller the seal would not have to be as wide and it would of looked much better. ( 3/4" gap ) 6. When I went to install the caps / plugs on the screw heads I discovered I was short 4 caps. I received 3 brushed nickel caps and 8 crome caps, there should have been 15 brush nickel caps.... I really do like the looks of this door and will try to contact the vendor - Manufacture to see if any or all of these issues can be corrected. As per other reviews that complained about the manufactures name etched into the glass, That issue has been corrected, this one does " NOT" have that.
