A: Though it is pure "baking soda" it it NOT for baking. The box literally says "not recommended for baking." The "Fridge-N-Freezer" version is not just the box with the side panels that open, but a different grind that does not rise when baking.

I first saw these by the checkout line at my local Home Depot several months ago and thought they were brilliant. I was previously keeping open boxes of baking soda in the fridge and freezer, but they would occasionally get knocked over and spill, and they didn't have much air flow or exposed baking soda through the lid opening. These are so convenient, don't spill, and are very inexpensive. And the mesh on both sides of the box allows for much more air flow than a standard open box. They seem to work very well--the water and ice from my fridge didn't have any odor after I put them in my fridge and freezer. I will never remember to change them monthly, but I recently noticed that the water and ice are starting to have an odor, so it's time to buy new ones. So far I don't think I've found them in stock at any other stores, so Home Depot seems to be the only place I can buy these locally.

Problem with the physical box

Unfortunately when I opened the tab on the box of Fridge N Freezer Baking Soda, I discovered that there was no covering over the opening. As this is a very large space, I can't use it in the fridge or freezer as I am concerned that it will spill and make a huge mess.
