Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products Aura Solar Attic Fan exhausts air continuously by using solar and wind power for optimum ventilation performance. Model ASF-14-C2-BR has a 15- Watt solar panel providing energy to 4 EC fans on sunny days to increase the CFM (cubic feet per minute) of 1007 of air flow performance. It is an excellent choice to exhaust attic heat in the summer to reduce hot attic temperatures. It will also exhaust moisture in the winter to keep the attic dry and cool to preserve attic insulation and prevent ice dams. The Aura Solar Attic Fan will produce 360 CFM at 11 mph without the solar powered fans through its patented engineered design with no moving parts. The attic fan is made of corrosion resistant aluminum and has 5 manufactured components: the vent head, 4 - EC fans, 1 - solar panel, vent collar and square flange. It has a 14 in. Dia throat opening with a 2 in. collar height and a 19 in. x 19 in. square flange. The vent head has three concentric cylinders with slotted vertical louvers. When air moves against the louvers of the outer and middle cylinders it is directed to create a circular airflow. The louvers of the inner cylinder face in the same direction as the air movement created by the outside cylinder. This air movement creates a Venturi effect which produces a vacuum or negative pressure to pull air from within the attic space.
  • No wiring or batteries required, operates on solar energy
  • Does not require electricity to exhaust air from attics spaces
  • Solar panel operates at 12-Volt
  • Solar panel is manufactured tempered glass; rugged design to withstand high wind pressure, hail and snow load; providing exceptional panel rigidity
  • Quiet fan operation; designed to run up to 40,000 life hours per fan
  • Inner vertical louvers will keep insects, birds and squirrels from entering the vent allowing optimal air flow and no maintenance
  • Round aerodynamic design can with stand harsh weather and wind forces of up to 200 mph
  • Pitch capacity range: 3/12 to 12/12
  • Net free air: 144 sq. in. (1.00 sq. ft.)
  • Ventilation rule 1:300: one unit per 600 sq. ft. of attic space (maximum up to 900 sq. ft.)
  • Brown powder coating finish is significantly greater at resisting scratching, chipping, and oxidation
  • Covered vent head is a flat one piece spun cap that prevents rain and snow from entering
  • Removable vent head for easy access
  • Exhausts air continuously even after the sun sets or on cloudy days
  • Works 24/7, helps to reduce energy costs
  • 1007 CFM at 0.1 SP

Questions & Answers

Will this still run at night? (battery backup?) or does it run only in sunlight.

Will this still run at night? (battery backup?) or does it run only in sunlight.
Asked by: tbarkle
no, it will not. There is no battery backup included. It only runs when the sun is out which really is the only time you need it since that's when its hot out.

Would this unit work for just over 850 cf, and would the solar work if facing the sun all day in Newport, WA ?? Also

Would the solar work if facing the sun all day, in Newpot, WA? & how much for installation on a split level house? Thanks
Asked by: VicNewportWA
No, it would not work for 850 cf, as stated in the product specifications, using the 1:300 rule "One unit per 600 sq. ft. of attic space" The solar fan will work if the panel is facing the sun.

1007 CFM Brown Powder Coated 15-Watt Solar Powered 14 in. Dia. Roof Mounted Attic Exhaust Fan is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Possible moderate cooling with 4 computer sized fans I didn't realize until I got the item that it uses 4 small fans and not one larger one. The 4 fans are similar to what you would find in a computer tower, maybe slightly larger. I don't know how much air these fans can push. I assume that if it is only partly sunny only a couple of the fans turn, not all four. I climbed into my hot attic the other day to see if the fan was working. All 4 fans were turning. I found one end of the fan array not secured, the screw and bolt were missing. I didn't notice this when I took it out of the box. I don't know if it shipped this way or it got loose and fell out when the roofers installed it. I replaced the screw and bolt, The fans are quiet, but I don't know how much cooler this fan will make my attic with 4 small fans even when they run all day. You probably need a series of 2 or 3 of these fans across your roof depending on the size of your attic to get adequate cooling. My previous fan which was wired in, died after about a year, so I am hoping this fan lasts much longer. Time will tell if I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Aura 216 CFM is an excellent choice. This fan was easy to install and works very well. Just as they say, the sun and wind both work very well on pulling the hot air out of the upstairs of my detached garage. An excellent choice.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple design, easy to install, moves a lot of air. I purchased two of these for a double wide mobil home that came with small, plastic, passive vents. One of the two was obviously a re-pack as it was damaged and not packaged like the other. My local HD took it back without hesitation. It was easy to install and moves a fair amount of air. It uses four 120mm computer fans instead of one large conventional fan. Time will tell as to how long they'll last, but they should be easy to replace when they do fail. I would suggest checking them annually. The panel itself seems to be a mid-grade, crystalline type that should hold up fairly well. The verdict will remain out for at least a year on whether they actually help save $$. In my case, just about anything would help...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Green technology They don't move a lot of air but they work better than a standard vent. I wish I would have bought two for my roof, observe the 600 sq. ft. per unit. One thing to note is that they run anytime there is sunlight, even in the winter. Overall I am satisfied with the unit.
Date published: 2012-05-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fan Works Great As soon as the box was opened and the fan exposed to the sun it started to run. I sucks air out of the attic like a vacuum and has a nice low profile. Apears to be quality built, particuarly the solar panel. The house is cooler and the A/C runs less often. I even raised the thermostat to 75-76, instead of 73-74 with the A/C constantly running.
Date published: 2011-07-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent little solar fan If you have a large and long attic you would need at least a couple of these fans to noticeably lower temp. on a hot summer day. However if you want quiet and free attic fan (no tax on the sun rays yet...) this is for you. When fans don't work (like on a cloudy day) it still circulates air, a plus. Solar panel is permanently attached flat on the top so you don't see it unless the roof is steep, blends with your shingles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two thumbs up We had Avalanche Roofing Contractors of Spring Tx install this fan for us and it has made a huge difference in our attics temperature. Highly recommend!
Date published: 2011-06-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still have to see how much they help. First, I was surprised how little sunlight it takes to run the fans (I was also surprised that there were 4 small fans instead of one large one). They even began to run while still in the garage. The installation was rather straight forward as long as you are comfortable cutting a hole in your roof. I installed 2 of them. One of them was badly bent in shipping and also had a couple of dents in it. The other one was also bent up but not as bad. I will have to give you an update on how well they help to cool the attic.
