Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products Aura Solar Attic Fan Retrofit product line is designed to fit over a turbine ventilator roof base. It has a flared adapter that easily fits over an existing roof mounted metal base. The Aura Solar Attic Fan Retrofit will exhaust air continuously by using solar and wind power for optimum ventilation performance. Model ASF-12-RF-BR has a 12 in. Dia throat opening and a 10-Watt solar panel providing energy to 4 EC fans on sunny days to increase the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of 740 @ 0.1 SP of air flow performance. It is an excellent choice to exhaust attic heat in the summer and exhaust moisture in the winter. The Aura Solar Attic Fan Retrofit will produce 310 CFM at 11 mph without the solar powered fans through its patented engineered design with no moving parts. The attic fan is made of durable rust free aluminum and has 4 manufactured components: The vent head, 4 - EC fans, 1 - solar panel and adapter. The vent head's patented design has three concentric cylinders with slotted vertical louvers. When air moves against the louvers of the outer and middle cylinders it is directed to create a circular airflow. The louvers of the inner cylinder face in the same direction as the air movement created by the outside cylinder. This air movement creates a Venturi effect which produces a vacuum or negative pressure to pull air from within the attic space.
  • No assembly required, comes complete and ready to be installed
  • Fits over an existing 12 in. Dia metal roof base
  • No wiring or batteries required, operates on solar and wind energy
  • Does not require an electrical connection to exhaust air from attics spaces
  • Solar panel operates at 12-Volt
  • Solar panel is manufactured tempered glass; rugged design to withstand high wind pressure, hail and snow load; providing exceptional panel rigidity
  • Quiet fan operation; designed to run up to 40,000 life hours per fan
  • Inner vertical louvers will keep insects, birds and squirrels from entering the vent while allowing optimal air flow and no maintenance
  • Works 24/7 to help to reduce energy costs even after the sun sets or on cloudy days
  • Will reduce attic temperatures in the summer and will keep the attic dry and cool in the winter to preserve attic insulation and prevent ice dams
  • Round aerodynamic design can with stand harsh weather and wind forces of up to 200 mph
  • Vent head has a flat one piece spun cap that prevents rain and snow from entering
  • Pitch capacity range: 0/12 to 12/12
  • Net free air: 113 sq. in. (0.78 sq. ft.)
  • Ventilation rule 1:300: One unit per 450 sq. ft. of attic space (Maximum up to 750 sq. ft.)

Liked the idea of converting my turbine with this unit but not being able to adjust the solar panel to properly face the sun negates its positive features.

Not worth the price
Although I feel they are fairly well made I dont beleive in the CFM rating. After seeing the pictures in the ad, I gave the unit the benefit of the doubt when i saw the small fans that were included. Once they were installed I could barely here them running with my ear right next to the unit. I could barely feel any air being pulled out of the atric as well. I would advise against buying these fans

Easy to install. Sun needs to be directly on it to run all 4 fans. Doesn’t pull air as much as I hoped but fan size limits how much it can do. I may get second solar panel to have it work longer. Overall good for price.

This is a passive ventilator that costs $40 with added four $5.00 desktop computer fans capable of very limited airflow and a $10.00 solar cell without any power reserve or controls. The fans are not designed for this application at all and in fact are obstructive to flow particularly when they do not turn (night or failure). One single large diameter fan and a battery with controller should be provided. The solar panel is not adjustable and is not slanted; in the North it shall be covered with snow (i.e. useless) and in the South it will be covered with desert dust & not rinsed by a rain. The fans are not rated for the expected temperatures -neither winter in the North nor summer in the South. There is no way to tell if the fans are working. The manufacturer does not provide meaningful information about the effective air moving if any. Making this a unconscionable overpriced bordering with the rip-off.

Only works when sun is at the perfect angle. Cheaply painted, mine is already peeling in after less than a month. Outer vent ring is poorly attached and has already separated from the main vent. Terrible waste of money.

Arrived in excellent condition, very easy to install, started up soon after in place. Too early to gauge effectiveness & durability.

While you may need more than one to be effective, this fan is never going to move as much hot air from your attic as a roof or gable mounted hard wired electric fan. However, installation is a lot easier, and there are fewer parts to fail.
