I just purchased this toilet but now reading over the reviews and it appears there is a problem with cracking Has this been addressed at all? Thinking I should return it for something without the cracking issue
Asked by: Steve
Yes it has. Mine cracked right down the front. I contacted American Standard and they offered to replace the tank free of charge. I never even had to put up any fight. They obviously had a quality control issue and they realize it. Hats off to their customer service.

I want this toilet with quite close toilet seat. Is it included? If not, What is product number?

Asked by: pb
It does have a quite close seat but it's the worst seat I have ever sat on. You will have to replace it and American standard knows that. when I called them they said it just a free seat and they know it's quality is such it will need to be replaced. Just plan on it. I would stay clear of American Standard.

Unfortunately, I have to write a review for something that I thought I never would. We bought this toilet about a year and a half ago. My wife was cleaning the bathroom the other day when she noticed a large crack going down the front of the bowl to the base. I called American Standard and was told that without a receipt there was nothing they could do. Home Depot wanted nothing to do with it either. So, after spending $200+ on a toilet that I did really like, I had to purchase a new one only 2 years later. The other toilets in my house are 25 years old with no problem. I would avoid this line of American Standard toilets. A quick google search will reveal that this cracking problem isn't isolated. Many people have posted or written reviews about how much their toilets cracked, some leading to water in their homes. Thankfully, we caught ours before it became that. Hopefully, American Standard can figure out why so many of their toilets are cracking and back it up with their warranty.

I have never seen a toilet flush as well as this American Standard Champion 4 does! Bought three of these at the same time in November 2017, and had them professionally installed. Last week, came home to a flooded bathroom. Found a crack in the front part of the tank. Didn't even touch that toilet that day! I read some other reviews stating the same issues. I called American Standard, expecting the run around and hassle of trying to get some warranty help. These come with a "limited lifetime warranty" on the chinaware. (Whatever that means). We were concerned that the two other tanks may also be faulty, because the date codes were the same. So I asked that all 3 tanks be replaced to avoid any more floods in the house! But to my surprise, the customer service at American Standard were not like so many others. They backed up their product. All that I needed to do was provide a picture of my sales receipt, and a photo of the crack along with the date code on the inside of the tank. And I received 3 new tanks within one week! American Standard proved to me that they are a good, caring company.

"...in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” And with this toilet, you can add one more certainty: there will still be poop in it from whomever used it last because it always takes at least 2 flushes to get it all down, and sometimes up to 5!!! We have 5 kids, and so if it doesn't go down in 1 flush, it stayed. To add to the fun, it takes a long time for the tank to fill, so you can wait a while before getting the 2nd, 3rd, etc. chance to flush it all down. I worried that maybe the problem was with my old pipes even though the drain is the normal size and is a foot or so away from the main stack. When I installed a new toilet (the Toto Drake), everything went down perfectly. If this toilet works for you, I'm very happy for you, but it was nightmare for us. I highly recommend the Toto Drake, however, as does our plumber, and a couple of neighbors who also are fortunate to have it in their home.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a waste I bought this because of the larger trap size. I read the reviews and ignored them, my mistake. Luckily my stepson is a plumber and installed the toilet for me. The next day there's water all around the base. I thought maybe the wax ring didn't seal. Had my stepson remove the toilet and replace the wax ring and reinstall the toilet. Water started leaking out from under the toilet while we were standing there. He removed the toilet and looked at the underside and saw what looked like a crack near what looks like the underside of the hole you see in the bowl when you look down into the toilet. Just to make sure he set the toilet on an old shower curtain and poured some water tinted green into the bowl. In less than a minute he moved the toilet and there was a green puddle already starting to form. Two wasted wax rings and now the toilet needs to be returned. Will be replacing it with a Kohler.

I will agree with others that stated the plastic seat is not that comfy and my contractor bought a better wax ring. I also find that a normal press on the flush handle seems to give a reasonable, but not major flushing effort, as others report. Holding the handle provides a more complete action. If it was marketed as a dual flush john, it would be fine. Otherwise, it does seem to be a small flaw. But not enough for me to urge you to buy something else, but I cannot give it a 5 star rating for those reasons. Works good, looks fine, probably last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very nice toilet This is a very nice toilet with a good flush. Installing this toilet was a little nerve racking. The sponge gasket between the tank and the bowl is very thick. It is not possible to tighten the tank so that the bottom of the tank touches the front and back of the raised ridges. I only tighten enough for the tank to touch the front ridge. I was afraid I might crack the tank if I tighten it any further. Because the tank is sitting on top of the thick sponge gasket, you can see a big gap between the tank and the bowl. This gives people the impression that your tank may be wobbly. Another issue with the tank sitting up high on the sponge gasket is thatnthe toilet seat can barely stay in the up position due to the toilet tank not leaning back far enough. Maybe over time, the weight of the tank will push the back part of the sponge down and the let the tank till back more. Once this happens, then the toilet seat staying up issue will go away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adequate, but not quite living up to promises We purchased two of these toilets to replace toilets from the 1980s when our home was built. Our market survey included quite a few different models and chose the Champion 4 MAX because of reviews and they appeared to meet our needs. Truth be told, the government regulations have neutered toilet performance. Our family members can easily require 2-3 flush cycles to clear the bowl. The included toilet seat is is not very comfortable because it slopes. We purchased two units and had Home Depot install them. One started leaking and the leaking came from a broken tank due to mis-installation. We purchased a replacement and hired a real plumber install it. Overall, a slightly above average toilet.

I purchased this toilet in October 2018. I got up this morning and the tank is cracked. Yes, it started at the handle and went down, what a mess it made. We had the last toilet for over 30 years and never had an issue. Of course thinking we would not have an issue with this one I never registered the warranty I am wondering if American Standard will stand behind their product KNOWING there is an issue. I am going to contact them and if they do not stand behind their product knowing they have an issue with this exact problem my review will get worse across all social media. As of now I do not recommend American Standard products.
