Do you have to use roofing nails to attach the flange to wood studs? Can you use screws and fender washers instead, or is that only for steel stud installations? If so, why?

Answerjwalk, Good Morning! This is what we recommend. To secure the tub to wood studs, use sheet rock screws with washers immediately above the flange of the tub. To secure the tub to steel studs, use drywall screws and flat washers. Sincerely, your American Standard Consumer Connection Team
My alcove is 63 5/8 inches so I need to fill it in. I want to make a ledge at the back of the tub which would be somewhat level with the tub. Could I cut off the vertical part of the flange?

Bathtub is not white and had a flaw in finish
The bathtub is NOT white so that was my first disappointment. It looks more beige. The second disappointment was the small flaw in the finish of the bathtub on the top right-hand side. There is a tiny black dot where there is no enamel. Because of COVID19, I had to shop online and rely on the pictures. The picture shown of the bathtub was not the actual colour. Do not recommend you buy this product unless you can actually see it.

Soon as this one was installed noticed a indention right in the very front in the middle! Refuse to take tub out since I already paid to have it installed. Having to spend more money to have the slate being used on the wall to extend across the front of tub to cover dent. The 1st one I got had the enamel chipped off the corner. Both tubs were not in store purchases. The store nearest me did not have this tub. Other than that I really like the tub.

Used this to replace a one piece fiberglass unit in...
Used this to replace a one piece fiberglass unit in a rental bathroom. The new tub seems to be very durable, even when I accidently dropped a drill, and a hammer into it. Not a single scratch. Installation was easy and straight forward. There is included directions on how to install, just follow them and it will work out perfectly. The drain and overflow holes matched up perfectly to the old tub. Finished the surround with backer board and affordable tile, and the end result looked too good for a rental house!

Had a chip on the edge but covered with the tile. A little more care in packaging and shipping would have prevented it. Very happy with this tub!
