Q:Do I need to use primer or sealer if so what kinds?
by|Jan 10, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  You will not need a primer or sealer for the Satin Enamel paints. If covering an existing dark finish, you may need to apply two coats to deliver solid coverage. If surface will be exposed to outdoor elements, we would recommend using a water-based sealer for durability. -DecoArt Paint Guru

    Q:Should I stir before using?

    Answer This Question

A:  A good vigorous shake for about 20-30 seconds should do the trick, but if you have the ability to stir it, that's even better. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:Can this be painted over lacquer panted cabinets? Any sanding that needs to be involved?

      Answer This Question

A:  If the lacquer is water-based the answer is yes, you can paint directly over the top. If the lacquer is oil or solvent based, it will not adhere well directly to it. We would highly recommend that you sand the surface well to remove the topcoat and imperfections, then paint over it. Or, you can use a water-based primer, let it cure for 4-7 days, then paint with the Satin Enamels. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:Can you use shellac as a sealer? Can you also use wax, light and dark? Thanks, Gina
          by|Aug 14, 2017
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  We would not recommend a shellac as a sealer over our Satin Enamel paint because those sealers are solvent-based and our paints are water-based. It will not react well. We would recommend a water-based polyurethane sealer for best results. Yes, you can use the light or dark wax over the Satin Enamel paint. You should be able to apply wax and then wipe back any wax you don't want directly over the paint.

This paint is amazing. It went on to my 1920s wooden kitchen cabinets so easily, covered nicely. I have paint left over for other projects. The color is exactly that, a warm white. I will buy this paint again and again.

              Awesome Paint!
I love this paint! I've used several containers of the gray on furniture - very little prep, it went on nicely, one container really covered a lot, and it seems extremely durable! This particular shade was lighter than I wanted for my project, but I know it will work great on whatever I use it for.
