That's a standard procedure, not sure what else you were expecting. That's why the Ames company offers the 15 year warranty.

My daughter broke it.
I purchased the rake today. My 13 year-old daughter was using it to help rake leaves. I hope that she grows up to be a strong woman one day...but she shouldn’t be able to snap a new rake after 10 minutes of use. C’mon Ames. Be better.

This rake seems to be strong enough that I won't break it too easily, but the last metal-handle rake I had failed due to rust out. It rakes well and is mostly satisfying but it has a tendency to collect leaves between the tines and drop them on the next stroke in the area you just cleaned. It gets a little annoying but it's not too bad. It's nice and wide so the work goes quickly. The tines are stiff enough that it doesn't feel flimsy or weak. Seems like I only buy new rakes when I snap the handle on the old one, so maybe I'll pour some rustoleum into the handle and let it dry and protect it from moisture.

This 26” wide rake clears a much larger path then the narrower rakes. It’s durable and the overall 73” reach from the leading edge of the rake to the top of the handle is great because it lets you stand up straighter while raking which helps to eliminate back strain.

Two teeth broke off the very first use!!! Not sureally what this rake is intended for, but apparently leaves are too much for it. Note to self: Never buy a plastic rake.

It’s not as practical or efficient as I had hoped. I think the design could be straighter across (bottom) rather than curved. (The edges on either side go up) This would help pull more leaves easier. It is conveniently light in weight however.
