I am a female and although this tool does require some practice to use properly, it does NOT require a lot of physical strength. It works using centrifugal force (I think), that is a swinging motion is the active ingredient, not brute force. This, along with a loop-hoe, have been a game changer in my yard.

Could this be used along the edge of a fence like a weed whacker?

Ummm. No. Well, maybe. You have to raise it over your head like a golf club and swing it down hard and follow through like you're using a golf club. Only this thing is heavy. As long as your aim is good and you don't hit the fence, you can get next to it. But you won't get the same results as a weed whacker, that's for sure.

Sharpen with a small round stone in a Dremel tool, do both sides, just the cutting tips.

Do you carry replacement handles for the double blade weed cutter

The handle is a quality and durable wooden handle that should last a long time. You might want to do some sanding on it and add a coat (or two) of a quality protective wood finish to make it last longer and to be a little more comfortable on the hands.

Broke during first day of use
The shaft split within first hour of use. It appears the bolts used to attach the blade to the shaft are not centered, resulting in a weakness. The failure occurred at the lower bolt, while the upper bolt remained in place. I’ve read at least 1 review with the same issue.

Great for pavers!
Probably not using this as intended, but I got this tool to deal with all of the weeds, grass and moss growing between my pavers. It's still not easy, but gets the job done so much quicker than getting down on the ground and pulling it all up by hand.

Really good tool
This tool works great on the weeds. I was a little apprehensive about buying this because some of the reviews were not very good. The only thing I can figure is maybe they weren’t using it correctly. If you hit the hard ground with it constantly eventually it is going to break. Love this tool highly recommend

This review is on the Ames double blade weed cutter and it is the greatest weed cutter I used. I had 4 ft weeds in the front and back yard. I stood in the middle of the weeds and I like the why u swing in forward and back. It is very lightweight and that makes it nice to swing. The blade is very sharp. I have had this one for 3 months and also I had another one for 5 years and I broke it when I hit a big rock. This weed cutter meets all expectations I had from the first one.

This is a heavy tool, and it worked very well on the four and five foot weeds and bushes that had taken over our back yard Price is about $5 more than I wanted to pay, but IT WORKS, and it doesn't have any complicated bells or whistles. Recommended.

It will get the big weeds and small brush that is too much for a string trimmer. A lot of work, but very effective.
