Q:How durable is the hand tiller? I've read reviews of others offered for sale elsewhere that said that the tines bend/snap easily or the welding was poor. I want the tool to last at least 5 years in my 10'x20' existing flower garden to loosen soil/aerate.

Answer This Question

A:  If you have an existing flower bed then this will work for you. I would not recommend it if you have extremely hard clay like dirt in your garden. This was definitely made for light duty garden work and nothing heavy duty at all.

Q:Can this be used to loosen small landscaping rocks that are embedded in soil?

A:  Yes I have rocks under soil that range between 2” up to 4”

A:  Depends on the size of the rocks, if they are smaller than the claws then yes, if they're bigger, it can't grab and manipulate them. You'll probably also bend the claws depending on the density and such of your soil.

A:  The plastic piece at the base was broken before I even got to use it. But it surely would have snapped right away if it weren’t. Not impressed.

A:  Depends on how firm your soil is. It will break down soil that has already been loosened. And then you can pull the rocks away. Maybe start with a shovel if you have hard clay soil like me.

          Answer This Question

A:  No. I used it to punch holes in my lawn for reseeding and aerating my lawn...Weeds in rocks are easier to be killed by a direct weed killing spray that goes to the root.

          by|Apr 20, 2023

A:  Not really. It would be hard to maneuver and dull the blades quickly.

            by|Aug 30, 2021

A:  I would not recommend that. NO

              A:  Not designed for that

Great for smaller, previously worked flowerbeds or gardens
This Garden Tiller works very well for small areas where the soil is not hard-packed or bone dry. It is best suited for those beds which have been previously worked in prior years. For instance, I used it along the border of the flowerbed that extends along the front of my house. Every Spring I plant flowers there which I buy in 4" containers, usually Periwinkles or Begonias. So that soil was fairly loose to begin with and was an ideal spot to use this Tiller. Once you start tilling, you want to overlap your work space about halfway so that it really minces up the soil. I would also take the Tiller and poke or stab at the larger clods after each twist in order to break them up. You only have to turn the Tiller halfway for each plunge as that is sufficient for it to break up the soil. I was able to do my whole bed, about 60 sq ft, in fifteen minutes. I need to mention that this is a bed that has a soaker hose irrigation system located right on the surface, so I was able to work around that very easily with this tool as you can control it precisely where you want it to work. I highly recommend this hand Tiller for smaller, existing flower beds or gardens.

It takes way more energy than I imagined in hard soil. Th construction is good.
