yes and it is a beautiful design -- the top window slides down to reveal a screen. you can lower top window to any height. and you never see screen through window; it is one or the other.

Can I add a 2nd closer and or wind chain?

our current storm door has been damaged and damaged the door jamb because if being blown open in the wind. I noticed this only has 1 closer but would like to add a 2nd and it possibly a wind chain.
Asked by: mdp006
We are sorry about what happened to the door jamb but thank you for posting your question. Your door has a retractable screen rolled up inside the top door panel, and putting additional closer at the top would damage the screen. We do not recommend installing wind chain on our storm doors. Our experience, which is backed up by tests conducted by our Engineering department, is that a wind chain does not significantly increase the ability of the door to resist wind damage. In fact, our tests indicate that, under certain conditions, the presence of a wind chain may actually increase the likelihood of damage to the door and door jamb. Because of this, we strongly discourage the installation of wind chains on our doors and do not offer one. If you wish, you can certainly install a third-party wind chain on your door. However, if you do this, please be aware of the fact that any damage due to the presence of a wind chain would be excluded from coverage under the terms of the door's Warranty. - Enno

How is the upper glass cleaned behind the screen on a retractable storm door?

How is the upper glass cleaned behind the screen on a retractable storm door?
Asked by: rosebud
I purchased this for my sister. As I remember, the screen does not interfere with cleaning. The screen is on a roller so when you pull the upper window down the screen automatically follows. The screen must be on a roller mechanism that is hidden in the upper part of the door. It's actually very cool. So when the screen is in use, Both glass sections are side by side on the lower part of the door.

36 in. x 80 in. 3000 Series White Left-Hand Self-Storing Easy Install Aluminum Storm Door is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 1254.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from feels solid, but quickly damaged Installation was fairly easy, but it took longer than 45 minutes. After 2 hours or so, it was up. It looked good, felt solid, and was quite airtight. A week later, with my wife trying to go out on a windy day, the door flew all the way open. With no wind chain to stop the door, the closer overextended, mangling the closer and brackets. The frame must have been tweaked, too, as air now leaks around the edges. I paid more for what I thought would be a quality brand, but a simple design flaw makes it a bad investment. Twenty-five dollars in repair parts for every windy day around here is way too expensive. Add your own wind chain for a great door, but that will void the warranty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mid grade door higher price, no better quality. I installed my 3000 series self storing door 1 year ago. In the winter, the latch which holds the window up in the closed position self detaches and allows the window to drop without notice. The coil spring does not fully retract, leaving the screen folded and exposed under the top stile. In the summer, the same coil puts substantial tension on the screen, helping to tear from or pull out of the lower attachment point. The stiles are not rigid enough to prevent racking and the leading edge of the door ends up binding on the threshold. This door was purchased from Home Depot in Manchester, NH

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome purchase I have 2 sets of inswing French doors that leak during a wind driven or heave rain . I also can feel a heavy draft coming from around the doors as well. After hours of research I found I could install storm doors with a astragal to make double storm doors. My opening called for custom sizes to be made. I purchased 4 doors , 30x80 with 2 astragals.. After a few hours of work the end result was better then I expected. Doors were received quicker then originally expected. My application took a little longer, but if you are buying a single door then installation should be quite easy.I could not be any happier with my purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wished I never bought this door I have this door for about 4 years now. I installed it myself. The door faces west and gets the afternoon heat from the sun. The vinyl tracks for the screen is the poor design. It deforms, twists, bends, shrinks and bows within a year due to heat and cold, causing the screen to get caught and tear. I have changed out the tracks and screen twice. Now, the screen is torn again and I have spend more money to replace the tracks and screen again. Until they change the design of the tracks, I will never recommend the door to anybody. The tracks should be made of metal/steel/aluminum just like the rest of the door is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not a good buy Thought this self storing window was a great idea but since the screen slides it is an issue. The screen easily comes out of the track and does not slide very easily and roll back up very well. Also, the lock at the top of the door had to be replaced and we had to pay for it even though it sounds like it should be under warranty. We replaced the latch on two of these doors and neither actually locks the window in place. Must continually slide the window back up and lock it but with use it just slides back down. Tried to find door where the glass slide and not the screen but this was the only option. Very disappointing Anderson product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gap at top of door Doors installed by HD. One of the three doors was the wrong size, so had to wait an additional two weeks to have it re-ordered and installed. Door handle locks upright when opened sometimes, thus not closing afterwards. Also, there is a gap at the top of the doors. The front door has a 1" gap from the top of the door to the door frame. Doesn't seem right at all. I had the HD fella come out and measure the door frames, and custom fit doors were ordered, so you think there would be a fix for this. I was told to fill it in with a piece of quarter round. Not very professional at all. You would think for a $1500 + price, I would get doors that actually fit top to bottom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Install was easy This review is for the install only. I have no idea how long the door will hold up. I've installed lots of storm doors through out my home/facility maintenance career. This one was installed on my own home. The installation was as easy as it gets for me. No cutting and very little adjustment required. Make sure you premeasure the opening. I share another reviews concern with the handle/latch for the self storing screen. It feels cheap. I m considering ordering a replacement now to be prepared. The instructions state that you cant install a top closer or safety chain due to the self storing screen however I watched a video of an installer that did it and had no problems.

The opening into which the door was to be installed wasn't exactly to dimension, and although I had wooden shims used with the existing storm door that was to be replaced (also Andersen), it took a bit of fiddling. I may have been able to install it in 45 minutes if I'd just done six, but it took me most of the afternoon. That said, I think this is a vastly improved product over the same model door from 15 years ago. The plastic shims that allow the door and frame to be installed together are brilliant. The roller screen that unfurls as you open the top panel is really handy and eliminates having to look thru the screen when the top panel is closed.
