Q:Are handles replaceable? If so, how do you obtain one? One was thrown away because one of the handles was damaged badly and no longer would hold the bolts and was being used with holding the handle on. If I can edit this later, will add a photo.

        Answer This Question

A:  HD sells a 48 inch true temper post hole digger replacement handle. It comes pre drilled. You can remove the old good handle and take to HD to compare. I do believe they are all the same though.

          Wood in handles are cheap
Have used to remove dirt from 15 post holes, the handle broke on one side. The wood is not hickory but some probably Brazilian wood that will not hold up to digging post holes. As you can see by the picture, the label isn't worn off yet. Model 228176

            Broke immediately
Purchased this hole digger brand new, on the third plunge the arm completely snapped in half.

              Worked for me
I was concerned after reading the reviews but I was able to dig 7, 2 ft holes without it breaking. I would call it light duty as you could break it if you're not careful. Our soil is what I would call medium clay. It's not the worst but not the easiest to dig. The trick is to drop it, rotate it, drop again and just try to grab a bit of dirt at a time. If you put a lot of force on it when grabbing the dirt, it will break for sure. Using the right touch made it go pretty smoothly.

                Not worth the money
This was a bad investment. I purchased it to plant a few shrubs and it broke within the first day.

                Terrible… broke after 4 holes…
Broke after 4 fence post holes… Clearly a design flaw, cracked right at the hinge. At least Home Depot let me exchange it for a different brand easily.

Junk - Handle broke off on very first hole.
Literally, the first time I jabbed it into the ground, one of the handles broke off.

I got this to dig post holes for a set of clothesline holes. It works just fine. The ends of the shovels would be better if I sharpened them some. I also usually use this product for starting holes to plant bushes, and the like.
