The measurement determines the effectiveness of an air filter at trapping particulates. The higher the MERV value, the more effective the filter is at trapping particulates like dust and pollen allergens, airborne viruses, pet dander, and volatile organic compounds. The AprilAire MERV 13 is considered a higher end air filter as it removes pollen, mold spores, bacteria, pet dander, dust particles AND most common allergens. If changing to different filter ratings we suggest you consult with your HVAC contractor about what MERV air filter is correct for your system.
