Q:What is inner and outer diameter of 1/2" insulation? And is this the same (minus the self sealing part) as Armaflex 1/2 in. x 1/2 in. x 95 ft. Continuous Coil Pipe Insulation? I need 100 ft. Thanks

    Answer This Question

A:  The inner diameter(ID) on this product is 5/8-inch. The outer diameter (OD) is 1-5/8-inch. The dimensions of this item are the same as our 1/2-inch Continuous coil insulation. Please note that this product comes in 6-ft sticks.

Q:Can this be used on a 3/4 copper steam pipe for shower? It gets up to 120 degrees
      by|Jul 28, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Our Armaflex rubber insulation has a maximum service temp of 220 degrees farenheit. However, the product selected will not cover a 3/4-inch copper pipe. For this size pipe you will need a covering with a 7/8-inch ID. Q:How long will this last on interior hot water pex pipes? Because its rubber, I would expect it to dry out quickly.

        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for inquiry. Under normal conditions, the insulation will last the life of the system. If the conditions are not normal, such as excessive UV light exposure, it is recommended that the insulation be coated with ArmaFlex WB Finish. Please let us know if you have any questions.

          Used as a lineset cover
Used it for HVAC lineset, although I its made for pipes. More expensive than the regular foam but this is outdoor rated and hopefully will last a few more years under the elements. Not bad for $10 for convenience. Use scissors to cut

Unconventional use as foam cushion on sailboat lifeline.
Product was great for pipefitting projects. I used it unconventionally; wrapped over 1/2” PVC pipe, then slid inside a fabric (Sunbrella) sleeve to use as cushions on a sailboat lifeline. [used to “hike” outside the lifelines while racing, or to lean against when relaxing]. The ID was a bit too big, so made it easy to slide down the pipe and bunch up inside the 5 foot long fabric tube as I tried to push it through. I’m going to try adhesive to glue the foam to pipe, hoping that will help it to slide through without bunching. No fault with the product!

This refrigerant line doesn't seal well. They need to improve on their seal so insulation can work.

            Goes beyond it's advertised function.
Much more flexible that the "foam" version. I needed these for an unusual application - a hand grip on a railing, and I like that these are rubber and will probably hold up a bit longer than alternatives. The self-sealing feature made it really easy to install

Used this to insulate the risers from the hot water heater. The galvanized pipe is 3/4" and the fittings are 1". used both with the wraps to hold it around the inverted U heat traps. Insulated all the way up for the Hot side and only to the heat trap on the cold side.

The pipe wrap was used to replace the insulation around the outside pipes connecting my HVAC units to the house foundation. The old insulation was split and decaying. The Armaflex insulation was the perfect replacement solution and was easy to install as it comes with an open seam along the length of pipe wrap which closes and seals as you peel off the plastic protective tape along the adhesive coated seam. Using a few plastic ties to bind wiring, refrigerant tubing and the insulated pipe together completed the job and kept everything organized and bound together.

I had some fairly tight turns, using flexible connectors, when connecting my new water heater. I needed very flexible pipe insulation to conform. I was able to get this to product conform and seal, but by the next day the seal had opened up in various places. I ended up having to put a bunch of zip ties on it to keep it closed. It still popped open in several areas. I would recommend it for straight and non-tight bends in the plumbing.

It seems more durable as rubber based than foam based. Once you peel off the tape, it is very sticky, so make sure you get proper placement, otherwise hard to pull apart. I used it as a overhead rail protection from head bumps, etc.
