A: Don't waste your time with this kit. Just get an angle grinder with a flap disc. About the only semi-useful part of this kit is the balancer.

A: Yes, this blade sharpener and balancer will work with any non or mostly non-curved mower blade.

A: This tool is a piece of junk. Get a grinder and a flap disc 80 grit and that works better

A: This is a simple device for sharpening a lawn mower blade that is typically about 20 inches long by two inches wide by 1/8 inch thick, with a cutting edge about 4 inches long on each side. If your blade looks anything like that, it is good.
Just a suggestion: When removing the blade, make SURE you know how to put it back on the same way. It is easy to put it on backwards, which doesn't cut the grass at all.
Keep in mind, however, that this is not a serious tool for serious mowers. It is intended for the backyard mechanic who just wants to keep his mower in decent shape and keep it going as long as he can.

Answer This Question
A: Probably not. It is like a knife sharpener. You pull the blade out and then sharpen like you would do to a knife.

A: Yes it does sharpen them. I’ve been using this great tool for sharpening my lawn mover’s blade for the last few years and it works great. You just need a good drill machine for it to be effective. Use it little at a time on both sides and then check the balance using the included balancer.

A: Yes, used it on both my push and riding lawnmower blades. If your blades are really dull, you're better off having them grinded professionally or just get new blades. This sharpener works pretty good.

Q:If blade has a 'star' center hole instead of cylindrical hole, will this balancer work?
by|Jan 18, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Yes, the balancer has stepped ledges(?) that increase in diameter towards the bottom. If your blade didn't exactly lay on one of these steps you would have to be careful to center it.

A: Yes, mine has star too and have been using this for few years now. You can balance star edges on the balancer.
by|May 27, 2021
A: yes it will work because of the cone shape.

Much better methods for sharpening
This tool works, but just isn’t very efficient. You’d be much better off with a grinder and belt sander.
I attempted to use this and got somewhat decent results, however I almost drained my entire drill battery on just 2 of my blades. I then put the product down and fired up my grinder and finished all 3 blades in just a few minutes.
For someone with very little tools, this may be a decent option for sharpening your blades, but there are methods out there much easier than this. And without a pretty powerful drill and vice to hold your blades, this tool will give you a run for your money.
The balancer is neat, though.

Pointless for sharpening but the balancer is quite useful
The sharpener is jumpy at best it’s not designed for a mulching blade and the little plastic backing washer gets shaved away almost immediately making the tool useless. A straight file and a vice works so much better. However the little Balance checker is wonderfully useful. If your blade is not balanced it Will not cut right and it will wear out your motor and bearings a lot faster. I would pay seven dollars just for the balancer it is so easy to use. Just make sure there is no air blowing on the blade when you check it

So I bought this sharpening kit because I swear it would have been easier to cut my lawn with a pair of scissors(ok so maybe my weed eater but still) than with my lawn mower with the blade in the condition it was in. I could have bought a new blade but I figured I would get this so I dont have to keep buying new blades. Worked well I just wish I had a drill with more rpms still worked though and now my lawn mower works like a champ.

I sharpened a regular lawn mower blade and a mulching blade. I found it easier to control the sharpener by first setting my drill on the lower speed (400 rpm max), making several passes, and then changing the setting on the drill to the higher speed (1500 rpm). I did not attempt to use the sharpener on any rounded areas because of the increased difficulty, probably much more wear and tear on the stone, and it is easy enough to use a regular file on those areas. After using the sharpener, it was very easy/quick to take a regular file to touch-up the very end of the blade and make the leading edge extra sharp.
