Questions & Answers

How much time does it take to assemble?

The research I have found on this shed is conflicting. Some say it is a two day project. Others say it is a one day project. All say it requires two people for at least part of the time. Does the manufacturer have a general assembly time they predict?

Customer Reviews

Newport 8 ft. x 6 ft. Steel Shed is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 713.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very high quality, great design, easy for a handy person who can read. This shed is very well built, nice and tall, good doors, as long as you use the included (and buy extra) weatherproofing, you will not leak, just use it in ALL the screw holes. Dont get lazy near the end and stop reading the instructions, they are there for a reason, it sometimes asks you to do something you didnt do for the same exact panel before, but it works, just read it. The hardest part you need to think about is your foundation. IMPORTANT: IT SAYS YOU SHOULD BUY THE OPTIONAL ACCESSORY OF THE FLOOR KIT. IT COMES WITH IT! DONT BUY IT, IT COMES WITH THE FLOOR FRAME KIT, ALL YOU WILL NEED IS THE PLYWOOD. (GO WITH THICK STUFF) I also installed the whole thing on cinderblocks, at least use large bricks to elevate it off the ground for flooding, and wetness after rain. ALSO I ALMOST DIDN'T BUY THIS BECAUSE THE SHIPPING SAID IT IS A CURB TRUCK AND THEY WOULDN'T HELP ANYONE BRING IT IN. THEY WERE NICE AND HELPED AND ASKED ME WHERE WE WANTED IT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking Shed I bought this last summer and I have been quite happy with it. It was pretty easy to build, if you have two people. Don't try it by yourself! The only thing I recommend is either make sure you keep the snow off the roof or buy the roof strengthening kit.My roof bent flat with all the snow we got this year. (Ottawa)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First impressions. First off, I am not a professional. I am merely an avid do it yourself type, with some tools. The instructions do say it takes 2 people 8 hours to complete, and to NOT do so on a windy day. They are not joking about this, not even a little. I built is by myself (aside from the doors) in 8 hours, and it was a mildly windy day. April + Houston, Tx. = windy, always. I do recommend sorting all the nuts, bolts, screws, and washers into individual containers before beginning. I used clear tupper-ware containers to make it easier to identify, even from beneath. I built the foundation, from pressure treated 2X4's, outdoor rated plywood, and 3" deck screws. Assuring the foundation is flat is very important. Something that will save lots and lots of time is having a power screw driver, or impact driver. I used both, but primarily an impact driver for most of the screws and bolts as it is faster. If you follow the instructions to the letter, you should have no problem putting this together in 8 hours time. Also, beware of sharp edges.

I have read mixed reviews about this product and I would like to say that for the price it does whats it supposed to do. Make sure to read the instructions to get an idea of what your about to do. Also having a electric drill helps in the long run. When it comes to the roof it can be tricky because some of the holes don't line up that straight but with some brute force you can get it to work. All in all it was worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I listened to previous reviews and leveled the base This shed was special ordered and arrived in good shape. I had read previous reviews and made sure that the surface was level. (I used pavers.) The holes lined up fine once we had it level. They screws are short but easily enlarged the tiny holes in the beams with a regular #2 Phillips screwdriver. Use a magnetic screwdriver if you can. The washers for the screws came in 8 by 5 strips all joined together. We tore them into strips of 8 which gave us something to hold onto when you are down on your knees trying to get those bottom screws lined up. Use the single washers for higher up or on the roof panels. The silver tape provided to seal the roof ridge was really thin so we bought some thicker stuff and reinforced it. Also used an anchor kit to make sure the whole shed didn't blow away in the Texas wind. It a nice shed for the mower and gardening tools for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase I read all the reviews before deciding which shed to buy. This one had mostly good reviews and it was a very good price so I decided to go ahead with the purchase. Was it easy to assemble? Not really but I wasn't expecting it to be. It does take two people to work on it and MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. If you follow the instructions, it will come out right. The instructions have pictures that if you put your mind to it, they are understandable and help you with the assembly. My husband decided to do a few tweaks along the way. Further along the way, he found out the one tweak affects something else later on. So, DON'T DO TWEAKS. It has snowed AND rained ALOT in the past month and no leaks whatsoever in the shed and it has resisted pretty well. TIP: When you pick up the shed at the Home Depot store, drive around the parking lot and there is a shed just like it already built. Take pictures of the inside detail (where the corners meet, the way the door is set up, the ceiling, etc...) It will help you along the way when you are putting it together. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase.

No panels were bent, and the instructions were pretty clear. Making sure the frame is both square and level, or the holes will not line up is very important! The same for when you get the wall up square them up before you start the roof. Don't skip ahead in the steps like I did, you will have to take thing apart. When I finished the shed look great and I stored all my garden equipment from my garage in it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be prepared! I bought this shed because I wanted to get some stuff out of my workshop. The final product is exactly what I wanted for the price. However, I would like to add to the number of reviews for this shed in making it very clear that YOU NEED TO PLAN AHEAD BEFORE ASSEMBLING THIS SHED! There are steps that are impossible without a second person. If you want to play it safe, plan to take two days to assemble. Be prepared to have to re-level the shed if you have assembled the foundation weeks before the rest of the structure. My father and I found this out the hard way after assembling most of the shed with little trouble, but having A LOT of trouble assembling the roof. We realized half of the shed had sank and needed to be shimmed in order for the structure to twist back into shape. If you know what you are doing it is not necessarily a hard job, but it is a long job. I said I would recommend this shed to another person, but only if they were knowledgeable and had the skill set to deal with issues as they came up during construction.
