Do you think this wire wheel can be used to remove closed cell spray foam from a copper pipe if not any other suggestions?
ByJun 29, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

This wire wheel is designed for removing rust and paint from metal, wood, and other materials. It might remove some spray foam, but it could also damage the copper pipe. A safer option might be a plastic scraper or a specialized spray foam remover.

I this usable on a ryobi 18V Cordless 4-1/2 in. Angle Grinder
BySep 4, 2023

Answer This Question

This wire wheel is designed for use with drills with a 1/4" chuck. It's not recommended for use with angle grinders. Using it on an angle grinder could be dangerous due to the speed difference and the way the wheel is attached.

Not truly a direct answer but doubtful a true stainless, a magnet sticks. My guess same as most wire brushes some sort of coated metal or spring type wire/steel because it holds up to pretty rough use doing a set of 4 old rusted Toyota steel rims. I've had and used it over the past 2-3 years stored in a unheated garage and no rust so possibly knowing this may help you decide.

I bought the crimped wire wheel because I wore my other one out cleaning driveway surface. There were others more expensive but I figured if I was going to wear it out anyway, I may as not spend too much.

      Did Not Last Long
I bought this 4" wire wheel to remove rust from the trunk of my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. It lasted approximately 25 minutes. The wire bristles flew off the wheel as I was grinding off the rust. It's probably great for light rust removal but I wouldn't recommend for any type of heavy rust removal. It is now in the trash and I will never buy from this company again.

Easy to use in my cordless drill, this wire brush was a time-saver in cleaning the rust off of old metal lawn chairs that needed repainting. The brush held up in doing two chairs and I’m sure I’ll get more use out of it as projects arise. Only drawback, from my perspective, is the price. These things shouldn’t cost more than $2 or $3, but this brush is a bit pricey - about $6 with sales tax.

I regret I can't recommend this product. I needed to remove the remnants of tile adhesive from eighty 12" square floor tiles and started with a Black & Decker wire wheel I already owned. It gradually wore down to the hub at which point I purchased the Avanti Pro wheel. After less than an hour of use it disintegrated throwing off wire segments - you can clearly see the difference in wear patterns in the photo. You can see the difference in wear patterns in the photo. I then bought a Forney model elsewhere and it behaved the same as the B&D wheel wearing down slowly and evenly. Home Depot also sells the Forney product - get it as it is a far superior product.

Effective, but didn't last as long as I expected. I went through three of these while removing rust from a steel bakers rack and oxidation from aluminum patio furniture. The steel was badly rusted and required a lot of force to clean, so I'm not surprised this wore it out quickly. See picture for one that's shot and one that's partially used. The oxidized aluminum wasn't as bad (a lighter touch was sufficient), but the wheels still wore out after a couple of chairs. I haven't used competing projects, so It's possible I'm expecting too much. It was the only brand Home Depot stocked and I'd use it again, but would first try to find one that reportedly lasts longer. It goes without saying, but wear gloves. These are nasty to touch when they're stationary, and can really do damage when spinning!

            Total Garbag
I was using this to grind some paint off of some pieces of wood. The wire pieces immediately started flying off. After 30 minutes, this is what was left. Totally useless.

              Love this wheel
Works fine and will be back for more! This did the job the first time and the next and so on. I am extremely happy with this purchase (it's the reason I am writing a review, I normally don't).
