I could not get this to fit a 3/8 in arbor, so I would say 5/8 and 7/8.

This is not a 3/8" arbor. It is more like 7/16" thread size. It may be metric as it is made in China. It doesn't fit anything I own and isn't worth the trouble to return it. It certainly doesn't fit Home Depot 3" discs. Garbage!!!

Which, if any, 80g flap wheel/disc sold by HD can be used with this arbor?

Answer

Hi Mark, Diablo does not carry any 3" or 4" flap discs. We do carry 4.5" and 7" Flap Discs that are meant to be used on a grinder.

Could you use this in a die grinder?

The adapter is useful but it has a really stupid flaw in that it doesn't come with spacers for the various size holes of whatever disc your using. Because of this the disc will not stay centered in use. I had to use a piece of pvc pipe to make a spacer for the 16mm hole my 4 inch disc. I have a another disc that has a 22mm hole and I have to use modified washers to adapt to it. I don't know if theres a better option out there but Avanti should include a couple of spacers.

Ignore the One Star bad review >> error by user
The author of that review almost certainly tried to undo thenut by rotating in the usual counter-clockwise direction. But it is a REVERSE THREADED system so that it doesn't loosen when using. You must rotate clockwise to loosen and then it's a great value-priced arbor shaft adapter. Instructions should have so noted to assure others don't make that mistake.

The nut is torqued down so tight on the shaft that it is impossible to loosen. This screwdriver slot in the end is ~1/16 in depth and will not hold a screwdriver to allow putting enough pressure on the nut to loosen it. VERY POOR DESIGN. Was cheap enough but impossible to use thus valueless.
