Elliott, Great question. Awnings in a Box™ are made of is one of the highest quality durable solution dyed outdoor, mildew resistant, PU coated fabric on the market today and use a 100% Rust proof Aluminum Frame. They are engineered to accommodate moderate winds (25 mph) and light snow but should be retracted or removed during extreme winds or snow storms. Removing the fabric can be done in around 5 minutes with nothing but a screwdriver. If you are looking for an awning to withstand a Maine Winter's Snow with no maintenance, I would suggest an aluminum awning and you may want to consider having it professionally installed as Snow can be very heavy and and a strain on the mounting hardware.
Sharon, our awnings can be attached to any surface but it needs to be attached to the actual frame of the house or window, the sheeting would not be enough to support the screws with the awning mounted to them. The screws are 2" long and sheeting can range form 1/4" to 3/4" thick. We cannot tell how thick your sheeting is but I would personally recommend using longer screws and making sure you can securely reach into the window frame when mounting our awnings.
We are sorry but our awning kits only come in 4", 6' and 8 '. Most people with 5 ft Windows find that the 6 ft awning works fine as the clamps can be mounted for a 5ft. window and the awning will still appear the same. If you go above, there is a Product overview section on the left. To the right of that you can find the installation instructions and Specification sheets. If you desire further information, please email me at eric@idmworldwide.com
The drawstring pulls the front bar back to an upright position and the awning fabric pretty much folds in half. You can remove the fabric for weather or cleaning from the frame in less than 15 minutes with nothing but a screwdriver.
Some people do but you probably would have to mount it high if it is a standard door that opens out for Clearance as this awning is only 26.5" Deep plus you must be able to retract it for inclement weather. More people use the Designer Style for a Door because you can adjust the height easier or the actual Door Canopies Awnings..Please see the attachments.
Your question does not offer a lot of information so I will make this generic. We use the highest quality American Made Fabric. Our Awnings are designed to stand up to winds of 25 miles an hour. You can adjust our frame to make the awning taunt and it is designed to have very small areas of separation between the awning and the home to allow some of the wind to pass through. That being said, the reason it is easily retractable is to pull it back when it is windy or other inclement weather. You can also remove the cover in less than 15 minutes for bad weather or seasonal purposes. If you are in an extremely windy area with winds generally over 20 miles per hour or with fast gushes of wind and you do not want an awning that you would have to retract during these time, I would suggest a professionally installed metal awning.
Our awnings are still shipping next day and will as long as UPS and FedeX pickup and deliver- we are in Arizona

These are the only two depths we offer. If you have additional questions or technical drawnings, feel free to contac me at eric@idmworldwide.com Eric
You can contact your local Home Depot store's Pro Desk or Customer Service Desk to inquire about their Service Connect Service. They can offer you several companies to contact about having your awning installed.
Terri, The purpose of this awning is to shade you from the sun and it will work fine in your area for that purpose. It is designed to withstand up to 35 mile winds and light snow. Some people say that if you can't read a newspaper or magazine comfortably under your retractable awning the wind is probably too high or if you are expecting several inches of snow you should retract it. You can also remove the fabric from our awnings in less than 10 minutes with nothing but a screwdriver for seasonal or inclement weather. If you are looking for an awning to withstand lots of snow and high winds without retracting, I would recommend a metal one professionally installed. Eric
