Yes, it is a complete awning kit and will look like this when installed.
The pull cord attaches on the rear of the awning but I did need it as my is out of the wind.
If you go up on this page you will see a link next to the product overview a link to to see the Instructions for installation. Under that you will see a link for the specifications. Go down to page 3. Technically the answer to your question is yes but you would need to see if it will work in your situation. First , the flap in the front comes down 5.5". You will also have to consider the depth of the the pitch you want and the back of the awning will have to be mounted at that height which will probably be above the door frame. This means you will have to find the studs in the house frame to mount the head rod clamps or purchase additional hardware not furnished in the kit. Many people have mounted these over outswinging doors with great results but you need to analyze your situation to decide if it will work for you.
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, "Yes the awning can be installed over an outward storm door. Just be sure there is enough clearance above the door as to not interfere with the opening and closing of the door."
Kat, There is a small rope, basically a draw string. It will pull the rods straight back and the awning will fold down. Essentially the poles will be against the house and the awning fabric will be folded flat facing downward. I probably have a picture I can email you if you like. Eric info@idmworldwide.com
Awnings in a box are designed with a frame to be permanently attached to a house or other outside wall. It sounds like you are looking for something that can be put up and taken down like a tent. I would not recommend these awnings for your Ford Explorer.

It actually retracts using a pulley system
There are two mounting points, top and at the bottom of the finials, there will not be a problem with a slight angle at eithor position.
You should purchase the 6 Ft Awning, the 4 ft awnings are 47.5 inches wide at the top, but it is a personal decision. In my opinion, the 6 ft will look better, install easier, and less chance of damaging the window frame.
