Globs of undissolved solids throughout
I've used similar Minwax products for years and never found this problem before. This is my second time using Behr Stain & Poly.
I mixed the product as specified, but there was no way to make the thousands of clumps of solids dissolve back into the stain.
After testing on some scrap pieces, I found the altered color to be acceptable and I used it anyway; the final product looks nice.

Easy to use, great results.
I ended up wanted the poly protection and went with the pecan stain and poly. I applied it to regular cheap cedar fence pickets for a door and common wood 1x4s for trim. Obviously the wood chosen has a lot to do with the final color. Personally, it doesn't really come out as "pecan" on the cedar but I still like the results. Time will tell on the protection part. I sanded first, applied a coat, sanded with finer paper then did a second coat. 4 instead of a 5 due to too new to tell how long it la

This is a "flat" paint, not stain
This is a paint, wood grain does not show through like the misleading ads showing wood grain. This IS NOT semi-transparent like ad says. This is better suited as a barn paint than a finish for furniture or stain grade molding. When I opened the can it was obvious I had been dupped, so I "painted" a test piece. See attached photo.

Be aware of finished color
We love the espresso brown color shown on the can, but it required several coats to cover the front door and oak banister completely. The front door came out almost black. The banister came out very black, not even a hint of brown. Every person who saw it thought it was black paint and no different from the matte black balusters except for the satin finish. It was very frustrating, disappointing, and time consuming to spend all that time thinking the next coat would show the espresso brown we were looking for. Epic fail. Be wary of underlying wood color and poly stain color. If it doesn’t look right coat, stop and try a different color.

Great product
This really works great if you can be meticulous. If you are a quick and done sort, it will look messy. It dries quickly so any areas of overlap need to be wiped immediately. I used a deglosser first then lightly sanded and then applied two coats. I love the finished product. Golden oak to espresso.

Excellent product
This was my first diy project and it turned out great. I used the product to stain IKEA unfinished dresser. I followed the instructions - sanded with 150-220 first, applied firsr layer, let it dry, sanded with 400 paper and applied the second layer. I didn’t use the pre conditioner. There was no smell at all and it dried very quickly. I could finish everything in one day. The color is beautiful and exactly as i expected. I was hesitant after reading some reviews but happy I gave it a try.

Works great! Roughed previously finished chest with scotch scrubbing pad and in between coats. 2 coats did it and it looks and feels great!

Great product
I loved using this product.. it did a great job of “renewing” my kitchen cabinets. I’m a 71 yr old female & found this so easy to apply. Directions say apply a thin coat & they mean it, or will run or drip. It dries quickly, ready for 2nd coat in an hour. I used very fine sand paper between coats, & the end result felt like glass. So smooth & pretty finish. I used 3 coats just to have a good surface. Clean up is easy, just soap & water.

worked well for my projects
I used this on two end tables I had that I wanted to be darker. They both came out very nice. I love that it is water based for easy cleanup and very little smell. It is really more like paint, in that it pretty much covers up the grain, but then again I was using espresso color so I expected that. One of the pieces I did was really cheap and I think it is just particle board with a thin fake wood veneer, and even that came out looking nice, although it took about 4 coats. Easy to do multiple coats though because it dries quickly so you can do another coat in an hour. I got a quart sized can and it only took about 5 or 10% of the can for both pieces.
