Hi Steve, thank you for your question. We do not recommend Granite Grip on wood, as this coating is designed for concrete surfaces only. As it turns out, we do not have any coatings to recommend for a plywood deck. I recommend checking with your local store for a recommendation on a suitable coating to use for your project. Answer This Question

Hi Michelle, thank you for your question. We do not recommend any of our products for countertops, as they are not FDA-approved for direct contact with food. Additionally, water exposure, food stains, cleaning, hot pans, etc., will lead to reduced durability of the paint and an unsatisfactory surface. Have a great day! -Alex

Will Granite Grip adhere if the concrete floor has been painted?-
              ByMay 5, 2025
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hi Susan, thanks for the question. Our Granite Grip Coating can be applied to a previously painted floor. If the existing coating is glossy, it should be scuff-sanded first to help with adhesion. Also, I'd recommend priming first with our Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer. If you have additional questions about your project, please reach out to us directly. Our customer care team is happy to help. -Ronald

Do you recommend a primer if I am recoating this same paint from 6 years ago?

                Answer This Question

Hi Ralph, thank you for your question. If you are coating over old Granite Grip, you do not need a primer. We recommend ensuring that the surface is sound, clean, and dry. If you have bare concrete spots, then you can use the Concrete Bonding Primer No. 880. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say that Behr Granite Grip offers a visually appealing finish that enhances the look of concrete surfaces, providing a non-slip texture. However, many users report that the product requires significantly more paint than advertised for adequate coverage, often needing multiple coats to achieve a uniform appearance. While some customers appreciate the durability and aesthetic results, others express concerns about the application process being challenging and the product's performance in wet conditions. Overall, the product is seen as a good option for those willing to invest time and effort into proper preparation and application.

Very disappointed and frustrated with granite grip
I normally don’t leave reviews, but I felt compelled after spending **$300 on a 5-gallon bucket of Behr Granite Grip** and getting nothing but frustration. I followed **every instruction to the letter**—power washed, etched, and even used a bonding primer to ensure adhesion. Despite all the prep work, this product was a nightmare to apply. The coverage is **horrible**. After doing only **half of my patio**, I was already out of paint. And despite using the recommended roller brush, applying in multiple directions, and working from the center outwards, the finish came out streaky and **inconsistent**, with visible overlap lines and **shading differences** between sections. You don’t need just two coats—you need **three or more**, and even then it doesn't look uniform. It’s also **extremely thick**, making it **hard to spread** evenly. This product does **not deliver what it promises**, and the cost is outrageous for the poor result. I’ve now decided to just **paint over it with a regular patio paint**. Honestly, I regret not reading more critical reviews first. **$300 is a lot of money to waste**, and I would really like to know how I can get a refund. If Behr stands by their product, they should be willing to back it up when it fails—even after following all proper prep steps. **I do NOT recommend Granite Grip**—save your time, money, and frustration.

Hi Ev, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you experienced applying the product. That's not the experience we want for our customers, and I can understand your disappointment. We stand behind our products, and you can reach out to us directly so that we can find the best way to help. I appreciate you sharing details about the prep and application. The Granite Grip is designed to be a thicker coating, and each gallon covers 50 sq. ft., in two coats. To avoid overlap lines, and a blotchy finish, we recommend using the adhesive roller while applying little to no pressure. We appreciate your feedback. We look forward to hearing from you! -Giovanna Behr
I did my entire driveway in the standard tan product. It looks nice but certainly not like the depictions. I saw a lot of negative reviews and bought a gallon to test on some other concrete I had behind my house. It turned out ok so I took the plunge and bought 50 gallons for the driveway. I live in AZ so this actually worked better here due to the dry heat for adhesion. Make sure you spread this on thin. It calls for 2 coats minimum but you can always add more. It still picks up tire marks but does cover most imperfections in the driveway. It was a lot of work for my large driveway but way cheaper than hiring this done ( my quotes started at $12k and went on up to over $30k) I think I can always recoat if needed. Since I ordered a standard color I was able to return the extra 15 gal I did not use. This stuff is solid and does not appear it will come off. Just the appearance is not as even as I would like. Not sure how this would work in damper climates but 72hrs before driving on it here was more than enough time. (Rolled it on at temps in the 60-70's.....dried with days in the 80's) Try a gallon first if you can to test as once its dried you ain't getting off easily! Take your time and you should be satisfied with the result.

PEELS AND BUBBLES UP WITHIN A DAY
Absolutely horrible product, followed the prep to the letter and it didn't last 2 days before peeling and bubbling up. Coverage is also terrible. DO NOT BUY THIS. I wasted an entire weekend and $400 prepping and painting this garbage on my porch.

Hi Rudy, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear your Granite Grip bubbled and peeled. I want to assure you that this is not the performance we expect, and we want to help get your project back in order. To fix the bubbling, I recommend letting the surface dry for at least 24 hours. That may allow the bubbling to subside and for the coating to re-adhere. If that does not resolve the issue, I recommend removing any loose coating before etching the concrete if smooth and bare. Then, make sure the surface is clean and dry before priming the affected areas with our Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer for enhanced adhesion. After priming, touch up the spots and blend in the coating. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Behr Granite grip floor coverings
This was recommended by the BEHR REP. this has to be one of the worst products I have ever used as a contractor. The recommended coats don’t begin to cover. I put down 4 coats and it was a nightmare. It look blotchy and doesn’t begin to look finished. It was ridiculous to roll on with the recommendation roller they suggested. It dries out and you can’t stir it enough that it’s still usable. This should never be put on the Home Depot shelves. It cost a lot and looks terrible. I can’t tell you enough don’t EVER BUY THIS BEHR PRODUCT. ITS MISREPRESENTED.

                        Terrible coverage
After a day of prepping the surface (covered with 13 year old Behr epoxy) including power-washing, scraping, and etching, I applied the first coat & was surprised to see how thing (transparent) the coating was. The directions state that this is normal and a second coat is required. I applied a seconf coat the following day & was greatly disappointed to see that coverage only MARGINALLY improved. After 2 coats, the floor looks terrible & I'm wondering exactly how many it will require as this is not an inexpensive product, and 2 gallons did not even cover 1/2 of a 2 car garage. I'm torn now whether to go back to epoxy paint for the remainder, or spend more time & money applying additional coats. I have no idea how you could get this product to look like it does in the brochure/pictures; it seems impossible.

Hi Dave, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you're not getting the coverage you expected with our Granite Grp Coating. Customer satisfaction is very important, and our Customer Care team is on standby and ready to help. Please contact us directly so we can further assist you with a resolution. I'd recommend using a 1/4" adhesive roller to apply the Granite Grip Coating. When applying the coating, you want to use little to no pressure on the roller, because it will push the coating around, leaving it uneven. Again, our Customer Care team would like to hear from you to see how we can help. -Ronald Behr
Granite Grip worked fantastic for my project. It covered all my wall blemishes and made a great transition for the stone wall below it too the open drywall above it. Not normally used on walls I'm sure, but my project, it worked! There is a learning curve to using this material, and you have to work fast no matter the application.

This was a total disaster trying to get it the same color as a swatch. I understand it’s not gonna be exact, but mine is two totally different colors. Went back to Home Depot three or four times they tried to match it and finally it was you need to talk to bear? We can’t do anything else about it. Mega money down the drain. One month blessing with bear products and Home Depot

Hi Tommy, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear the color didn't turn out how you expected. Lighting can sometimes affect how a color turns out on your project. I recommend letting the coating dry for 24 hours and then testing another coat on a small area, as an additional coat can help develop the color. If the color is still not what you expected, it's best to choose a new color. Ensuring our customers are happy is our top priority, and we are eager to help get your project back on track. Please feel free to reach out to us directly for any additional support. We look forward to hearing from you! -Christina Behr

The Worst Behr Product - $1373 to Create a Problem
I am a fan of Behr products and decided to use Granite Grip for a 480 sq ft concrete floor next to the house. I followed the instructions and after 4 coats (that is four 5-gallon containers!) ended up with a patchy floor with some areas still showing the surface underneath. It seems that it will need at least two more coats to maybe look OK. I’m disappointed with this specific product and feel let down by a company whose products I have been using with satisfaction for decades.

Hi Edgardo, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear that your surface looks patchy, and after 4 coats too! That's not what we want for our customers, and we're here to help. The Granite Grip will look patchy after the first coat, by design, but additional coats should provide uniformity. For an even finish, I recommend letting the Granite Grip dry for at least 72 hours. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying another coat. I recommend pouring a 12" strip directly onto the surface directly from the can before using an adhesive roller and applying little to no pressure to spread the product. To avoid factors that could impact the finish, you want to avoid regular patterns by starting with the roller in the center of the section and rolling outwards in random directions. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we want you to achieve positive results. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr

Horrible product, look at the pictures. Two years, two applications, $400 plus shot.
I really wanted to like this and to have it work. For TWO years I tried. I followed the directions to the letter. I roughened the walk, I used acid etching, I talked to support. I did everything right. After it lasting 7 months the first year, they sent me 7 free gallons more to try again. I peeled off the flaking off portions. I re-etched. I purchased more special rollers. I used 3 coats!!. I spent another 40 plus hours applying it again. The results tell the story in the pictures below. ONE winter in Wisconsin and it is toast. I"m out $400 plus dollars in the product and 80 hours of my time. DON"T buy this. Maybe it will work inside, or in perfect Temperature. But not here!
