Questions & Answers

Can this be used on laminate cabinets
ByJun 11, 2025

Answer This Question

Hi Terry, thank you for your question. Our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel can be used on vertical laminate surfaces, like cabinets, so long as the surface is first primed with our Bonding Primer (No. 432). Have a great day! - Lina

How many square feet will 1 gallon cover with one coat? Also, is this considered one coat paint or is it recommended to plan for two when painting over stained wood cabinets?
    ByJun 10, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hi Cello, thank you for your question. Our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel covers 350-400 sq. ft. per gallon. It is not a 1-coat paint and will cover in about 1-2 coats, like most standard paints. The Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel requires a separate primer, which can help reduce the number of coats of paint needed. Have a great day! -Lina

      Answer This Question

Hi Sergey, thanks for the question. I'm sorry to hear that some of the paint is still wet after a week. Typically it takes about 7 days for the paint to cure when the temperature and humidity is within recommeded levels. I also wanted to point out that isn't best to wait at least to hours between applying coats of paint. It may just need a few extra days of drying time. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald

What’s the lowest cost HVLP sprayer I can use I bought Wagner 350 and it’s a little small
        ByMay 27, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hi Koak, thank you for your question. As it turns out, we do not recommend using our products with an HVLP sprayer. Our products tend to be thicker and heavier than what is recommended for this type of machinery, so we cannot guarantee the results. Instead, we advise using an airless sprayer with a 60 mesh filter and a .013-.015 tip size to spray our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel. Have a great day! -Lina

I am painting an oak table frame. Do I have to sand the wood to prime it?

          Answer This Question

Hi Judy, thanks for your question. To prepare your table frame, we recommend scuff sanding the surface if glossy. Then, make sure the surface is clean and dry before priming and painting. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any other questions. -Lina

                  DISAPPOINTMENT- TIME WASTED!
After two weeks, already chipping and peeling where you’d expect high use areas. I have older children but even so, we’ve been careful and it’s still coming off (started day 2!) I’ve used other brands in the past and regretting the hours it took me of unnecessary steps to complete the cabinets with this junk!! DO NOT BUY! Use Rustoleum instead. PS…how in the world is this product getting such a high overall rating?? Just look at the most recent reviews!

                    Absolute garbage
We used this paint for the cabinety that we custom built in the summer of 2024 and within mere weeks it was rubbing off on the most heavily used cabinet handles. We are 2 grown adults over the age of 50 with no children and very careful about this investment since we spend hundreds of hours designing, building and painting these ourselves. I'm absolutely disgusted by the quality of this pain and how quickly all our hours of work we're wasted because we now have to repaint, with a better quality paint, please avoid at all costs. The stuff is pure garbage and will not survive a heavily used home. Please go anywhere else to get your paint if you need durability and quality. You will not find it in this new Behr paint.

Don't us this crap you'll be painting forever
This came highly recommended by the sales associate at Home Depot. I am painting over a very light beige color with white. I'm on coat number four and it still looks streaky. For over $50 a can I'm not at all impressed. In case you're wondering if I know what I'm doing I used to be a landlady of a 4 family building and I've painted 8 other homes for myself. I usually live Behr paint but this stuff is garbage. Never again.

Hi Junk, thank your review. I'm sorry to hear you are getting a streaky finish. I assure you, this is not the experience we want for our customers, and I understand your disappointment. Before application, it is recommended to prime all prepped, coated, and uncoated surfaces for best results. Then, after, it typically covers in 2 coats. I understand 4 coats seems excessive, and customer satisfaction is important to us. Please reach out to us directly to learn more about your project to help assist you.- Alex Behr

                          DONT BUY!!
I have purchased this paint for many years. Not anymore! I pained my doors & trim about 4 years ago, about a year later the paint started peeling on some of the surfaces where they are touched. We had sanded & cleaned the areas with TSP. I thought it was something I didn't do right in the process. About 6 weeks ago we started painting again. This time we took off doors, sanded them, cleaned with TSP & primed them. This was also done for the trim. About 2 weeks later the peeling started again. This is a LOT OF WORK & now I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN!!! NEVER BUY THIS PAINT!!!🤨 I NEVER WILL AGAIN.

Hi Bjeans, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your doors and trim. To fix this, I recommend sanding to remove the peeling areas, cleaning the surface with soap and water, priming with our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer, and applying two coats of Cabinet, Door & Trim Paint. Please allow the paint to fully cure and harden (about 7 days), as it can still be delicate during this time. Ensuring our customers are happy is our top priority, and we are eager to help get your project back on track. Please feel free to reach out to us directly for additional support. Terrible Paint Mixing
Had a terrible experience ordering paint online. The Jojoba was supposed to look like gray green and what I got was mint green. Yuck! I cannot return so I am out of $50 plus taxes. Lesson learned, although I did a LOT of research on this color and reviewed photos, I will never order sight unseen with paint again.

Failed in some applications, excelled in others
Paint as advertised dries quickly and levels. I sprayed a bunch of doors, casing, trim, and baseboard with it. The sprayed surfaces touched up surprisingly well when using a 1/4” roller. However, I am not very pleased with the product other than that. Every caulk joint has a hairline crack due to its inability to expand and contract (I should have known considering its hard enamel shell). There were a few places where Brown smudges were on the pre-primed surfaces which bled through the paint. I went back over those same smudges which bled through the first coat, and about 1/2 of the color still bled through after a second coat. A week after painting, I went to clean some dirt off the trim, and the paint was rubbing off onto the rag with simple water. The owner at this time has not complained about any of the issues, yet. I will not be using this product in the future. This product would probably work well on cabinets that were primed and sealed exceedingly well prior to painting. However, using this paint on trim were caulked Joints are present is a terrible idea. Of course this is my opinion. Hopefully this is of help to others.

Hi KtmBenny, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the coating, such as hairline cracks, stain bleed-throughs, and the paint rubbing off during cleaning. This is definitely not the experience we want our customers to have, and I completely understand your disappointment. When painting over caulking, it's essential to use paintable caulk, and we always recommend priming any properly prepared surfaces before applying the paint. Our Behr Multi-Surface Primer No. 436 is a great option and will help with coverage and stain blocking. Additionally, after two weeks, the cured paint film can be cleaned safely with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent. Cleaning too soon can cause the coating to come off. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly to assist you further; we would like to make this right and turn your experience around. -Alex Behr
