Q:I have cabinets previously painted with this paint. Will I need to prime again before painting with this product again?
by|Feb 1, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi Kathe, thanks for the question. Since the cabinets have already been primed and then painted with our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel you wouldn't need to prime them again before painting. You would need to de-gloss the cabinets by lightly sanding them or using a chemical de-glosser. Good luck with painting your cabinets! -Ronald

A:  Hi Indra, thanks for the question. As long as the Cabinet & Trim Paint isn't sprayed too heavily, there shouldn't be an issue with the paint dunning or dripping. Good luck with your project! -Ronald

Q:I used this product on kitchen cabinets. The cabinets look great but the shaker doors seem to show brush marks. I used 400 grit sand paper to try to smooth out, but paint came off. Do I need to let it dry longer? What do you suggest to prevent brush marks

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Chris, thank you for writing in. I'm sorry to hear about the brush marks. It is best to allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before sanding. Once you have sanded and cleaned off the sanding dust, you can recoat maintaining a wet edge. Use gentle pressure and apply at the recommended temperature range. Answer This Question

A:  Hi Jantz, thank you for your question. No, we do not recommend any of our coatings inside bathtubs. Our coatings are not designed to be submerged underwater or get wet constantly, as they will not hold up. I recommend checking with your local store for a recommendation on a specialty product to use for your project. Have a great day! -Giovanna

          Casing to jamb
Roiled it on my flush doors, looks great. The bad news is it cracks on top of caulking. I tried different caulks and priming, still crackles.

Hi there, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that the Cabinet Door & Trim Enamel started cracking on top of the calking. If the caulking is in an area that is moved when the door is opened and closed, that could cause the paint to crack. Also make sure that you are using a caulk that can be painted over. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald Behr

Would use a different paint in the future
I used this paint to paint my kitchen cabinets black. I washed with tsp, sanded, and primed with Behr and then did two coats of this paint. Its patchy and you can see where the roller ended and paint brush strokes. It looked great when wet but dried to show all these flaws. I used Magnolia paint on my bathroom vanities and it looks beautiful, no brush or roller marks and it took a lot less paint and coats for a uniform look. I'm stuck with having used Behr now, but would use Magnolia next time.

Hi Bridget, thank you for your review, Sorry to hear that you had brush & roller marks when you applied our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel. When applying the paint, you want to keep a wet edge and not overwork the paint. If the brush and roller marks left a texture, I'd recommend lightly sanding the area smooth with 180 grit sandpaper and then applying another coat of paint. Dark colored paint is a waste of $$
Bought this paint as recommended by HD employee. We painted our upper kitchen cabinets an off white, exact same process of cleaning, sanding and priming. Exact same paint, except color. These cabinets get just as much use as our lowers. Uppers have held up great. The lowers, we got deep blue sea, it's a "navy" color, the paint seems tachy in some areas, scuffs and chips SO easily. When lightly cleaning with water, paint color comes off on rag. I'm having to redo ALL lower cabinets. Waste of $!

Hi Dana, thank you for your review, Sorry to hear that you are having to redo your lower cabinets. The Cabinet & Trim Paint typically cures in about 7 days, darker colors can take a little longer. If the paint has been applied for longer than a week, I'd recommend lightly cleaning the coating with soap and water and it should help remove the tackiness. Behr sage brush S370-3
The enamel paint for cabinets is great. My problem is with the color sage brush s370-3. This is in no way Sage. It is MINT. Think Girl Scout cookie thin mint green. I looked at it in cool light and warm light. Kept the piece I painted in the well lit kitchen for 24 hours with natural day light. . It was mint in all lighting. Nothing about this color is earthy sage. Thank goodness that HD will re-tint your paint. I was able to get a more satisfying color. It’s not sage either but I’ll take it.

Hi there, thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear that the color Sage Brush didn’t turn out as expected. Typically, the lighting and the surroundings in the room influence how the color will turn out. It is a great idea to sample colors first. Love my new kitchen
Seems like it will hold up except for the areas that are touched a lot, like the edges of the counter where people lean up against. It’s been 3 months and those areas already need touching up. Everything else looks great. I did use a liquid cleanser, scuffed up the finish and applied two coats of primer before applying two coats of the cabinet enamel.
