Q:using a moisture meter, what should it read for new treated lumber before using the solid stain?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Wayne, thank you for your question. Less than 10% moisture is ideal for the application of our Solid Stain, and greater than 20% could impact the performance and lifespan of the coating. Have a great day! -Lina

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Dennis, thanks for the question. Before recoating with the solid-color stain, I'd recommend removing any stain that is loose or peeling by scraping, sanding, or power-washing at a low-level, cleaning the surface with our All-in-One Wood Cleaner, and lastly reapply the stain. Have a great day! -Ronald

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Roberto, thank you for your question. Based on our research, it looks like you'll be working with tropical woods. If that is the case, we do not recommend using our Transparent or Semi-Transparent Waterproofing Stain & Sealer. The viscosity of the products is too thick and cannot fully penetrate the surface. It may be best to reach out to your local Home Depot for more information about a stain specifically designed for exterior tropical woods. -Lina

Great paint and coverage BUT the Redwood should just be called Red because it’s nothing like on the tin or leaflet swatches. There is just no brown in it at all. I almost feel like it has been mislabelled, it's so orange/red!

Did not last through one winter
This is supposed to protect decks for 6 years. It didn’t even last one winter and the sealer/stain started peeling off! I applied the sealer in the summer of 2022 to make sure it will dry properly. See photos.

              Response from BehrAug 22, 2023
Hello, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear the stain you applied last summer is peeling. That is not typical, and I can understand your frustration. Our Semi-Transparent Waterproofing Stain & Sealer should provide a 6-year lifespan for horizontal surfaces and 8 years for vertical. To fix the issue, I recommend removing the loose coating and cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner to promote adhesion. Once dry, touch up the spots and apply a thin coat if needed for uniformity. If the peeling is widespread, it's best to remove the stain by sanding or stripping before using our cleaner and recoating the surface following the recommended spread rate. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr

Peeling everywhere before a year was up.
This is peeling everywhere. It’s not a stain, it’s more like a cheap paint. It doesn’t soak in.

                  This stain comes out orange
Super disappointed in this stain. It not only comes out with an orange tinge, but the single gallon buckets are inconsistent and made my deck look awful. Now I have to powerwash and reapply a good sealant. Make sure to test it on a small area first before covering the whole surface.

                    Burst orange yuck
Prepped our deck, and applied the “redwood” stain. We immediately hated it but thought let’s let it dry and see what the color does. The color is NOT redwood, it is burnt orange, it is hideous, the ceiling in our home are now orange because they are reflecting from the deck! Behr please help and give me a refund!!! I need a new color asap!

                      Redwood Semi-Transparent Stain
Restored fences. All three sides done at different times. Oldest fence is on the left side. The back fence is the newest. Solid stain was recommended to hide all imperfections but I didn’t want the painted look. I chose one coat of semi-transparent. I’m happy with the results. I hardly ever write reviews. Thought I would share the outcome since review research is what helped me come to a decision. Used 3 cans of stain in this picture.
