Q:We have interior cedar T&G that is stained and has 40 years of photo-oxidation. It is now too dark and does not show much grain. The cedar is off the walls for remodeling. Can I use this product on the cedar - when the cedar is outside?

Q:Will this product remove the "Behr Oil-Latex Redwood Stain No. 9"? Our redwood stain is in good shape and been using it for 20 years. It's applied to thick wood logs holding up our Santa Fe style porch. We'd like the natural wood now.

A:  It's because the stripper is very alkaline. Redwood stains very easily with elklin material use oxalic acid to remove any dark stains.

Did not strip solid stain. Only partially effective where the old stain was worn thru to the wood. Applied entire jug to a 10x10 space, maybe 5% is stripped. What do I do now? Behr stain. 2 stars.

Hello, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the stripper did not work. Typically, after saturating the surface, you'll see the coating start to deteriorate in 5-45 minutes. When it starts to lift, scrub the surface using a bristle broom or brush. The coating should rinse off when ready. If the stripper is not removing the stain, it will be best to use a sander to remove it. Please reach out to us directly for further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! -Giovanna Behr

          Follow. The. Instructions.
My 30 year old deck was in very bad shape from years of neglect. After replacing over two dozen boards, I used the Behr Premium Wood Stain and Finish Stripper on the red stained (which I hated from day 1) old boards. I applied in with a roller, and followed the instructions and kept it wet by misting with water when it started to dry. After 40 minutes I washed it off with a hose nozzle. I followed that by applying the BEHR Premium Liquid Mold & Mildew Stain Remover, waited 15 minutes, and washed that off. I followed this with my Ryobi pressure washer, with the circular attachment. After all that, I washed it off again with the hoze. I am very happy with the bare wood results. Yes, it is a lot of work, and time consuming. But I would rather do it right than have to do it again any time soon. Don't cut corners, don't try to save money by not buying the stripper. My results speak for themself.

            Worked for me!
I tried this despite the negative reviews and this far, I cannot complain. I followed the directions and also used a scrub brush and a little elbow grease. So far, I’ve only stripped the railings. I added pictures of them and another of a section of the surface area for some idea of how they looked before.

              Created a bigger problem
I’m refinishing a solid wood front door that had stain and a top coat of varnish. It stripped most of the stain. Problem is, I applied it in spots the first try missed and it left indelible circular grey stains that penetrated deep in the wood. I can’t seem to sand them off and I may resort to using a bleach solution rather than sand 1/4 inch of wood off the door. It was bad enough than this product and the cleaner you have to use exposed the wood to repeated dousing with lots of water.

I don't know what I could have done wrong
It was supposed to be an easy task: I chose a cool and cloudy day, applied one gal on a 10'x10' wood deck, kept it moist for one hour, and pressure washed. And the result is surprising disappointed. As my photo shows this product (or my pressure washer) stripped less than 5% of the deck, and the rest of the area seems untouched. I usually avoid any product without a 4-star or above review. I decided to give Behr a chance, and paid my price.

Hello WaltonC, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear that the Wood Stain & Finish Stripper did not remove your coating as expected. Typically, after saturating the surface, you'll see the coating start to deteriorate in 5-45 minutes. Once it begins to lift, scrub the surface with a stiff bristle broom or brush. After that, the coating should rinse off when ready. Multiple applications may be needed depending on how well the coating is adhered, and if it is still in good condition. Worked Well on Patio Furniture
I bought some decent looking wood patio furniture -used- with the intention of painting or staining it black. Purchased Behr Solid Color Stain (black) + stripper ( 64) + the wood cleaner (63). I wet down each piece of furniture, then using a bring spray bottle, saturated it with stripper. Waited about 10-15 mins, sprayed again, then used a scrub brush, followed by power wash. I did it a 2nd time. See before/After photo. Took an entire weekend for a bench, table & 2 chairs.

I NEEDED 3 COATS ON A 20 YEAR OLD DECK WITH SIKKENS ON IT. LEAVE IT OVER NIGHT, THEN PPRESSURE WASH. I TRIED 12 PRODUCTS, THIS WAS BEST FOR THE MONEY. TE BEST WAS SMART STRIP PRO AT 3X THE PRICE.

Works but be very labor intensive
Used this to remove stain from a cedar fence. This product works but not as simple as brushing it on and hosing it off. I tried that first and the results were a blotchy mess. First I power washed the fence with a TSP and bleach mix and let it dry for several days. Then I globbed this stripper on the fence with a large paint brush and let it sit for 30 minutes. I then scrubbed every inch of the fence with a stiff brush, lightly hosed it off, then scrubbed it again before washing it thoroughly.

Hi John, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that using the Wood Stain & Finish Stripper was more labor intensive than expected. After applying the stripper, it's best to wait up to 45 minutes until the coating is lifting, before trying to scrape off the coating. On some coatings more than one application may be needed. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald Behr
                          Garbage!
I followed the directions precisely and this product did NOT work. My deck was clean and dry prior to application. I included a photo after following the instructions and using a power washer to remove the deck stripper. It literally did NOTHING! What a waste of $20. DO NOT RECOMMEND
