Q:My kitchen cabinets are oak stained hickory wood. It?s a very light stain. Would a good cleaning suffice to apply a new stain?
by|Jan 20, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi GiGi, thank you for your question. It all depends on the new stain you'll be using. Some stains can only be applied to bare and uncoated wood, while others are okay to go over a previous stain. Please check the label for directions and instructions on applying the new stain. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi there, thanks for the question. Depending on the coating that you are removing, the existing coating should start to lift between 5 and 45 minutes. You want to make sure the coating stays wet be misting it every few minutes. Have a great day! -Ronald

          Worked Well on Patio Furniture
I bought some decent looking wood patio furniture -used- with the intention of painting or staining it black. Purchased Behr Solid Color Stain (black) + stripper ( 64) + the wood cleaner (63). I wet down each piece of furniture, then using a bring spray bottle, saturated it with stripper. Waited about 10-15 mins, sprayed again, then used a scrub brush, followed by power wash. I did it a 2nd time. See before/After photo. Took an entire weekend for a bench, table & 2 chairs.

Works but be very labor intensive
Used this to remove stain from a cedar fence. This product works but not as simple as brushing it on and hosing it off. I tried that first and the results were a blotchy mess. First I power washed the fence with a TSP and bleach mix and let it dry for several days. Then I globbed this stripper on the fence with a large paint brush and let it sit for 30 minutes. I then scrubbed every inch of the fence with a stiff brush, lightly hosed it off, then scrubbed it again before washing it thoroughly.

Hi John, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that using the Wood Stain & Finish Stripper was more labor intensive than expected. After applying the stripper, it's best to wait up to 45 minutes until the coating is lifting, before trying to scrape off the coating. On some coatings more than one application may be needed. Garbage!
I followed the directions precisely and this product did NOT work. My deck was clean and dry prior to application. I included a photo after following the instructions and using a power washer to remove the deck stripper. It literally did NOTHING! What a waste of $20. DO NOT RECOMMEND

                  Labor intensive
In the words of PT Barnum "There's a sucker born every minute". I guess I filled that spot when I bought this product to strip Behr solid color stain from my deck. After two attempts, following the directions as printed, I spent 3-hours applying, misting, brushing and power washing. The results: my deck is still the same color. You'll need to lather the product on, leave it on the wood longer than stated, and have a good breakfast because you'll need all of your strength brushing the product.

Hi RandyW. Thank you for your review. I'm so sorry our wood stripper didn't remove the solid stain from your deck. I recommend reapplying the wood stripper, leaving it on the surface for 30-40 minutes while maintaining a wet surface, then scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom once the coating starts to lift and rinsing the surface with water. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance. When you use the product correctly it's amazing
Painted it on my old brown paint on the deck. Did not let it dry, if it's turning white it's getting dry wet it down with a hose. Scrubbed with a brush. I chose to power wash it off board by board and here are the pictures to show how that went. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Went back and got 4 more gallons to finish my deck.

Don’t waste your money on this.
It’s does not work as good as other companies. It barely removed any old paint and left white reside all over the deck. Wasted 20$ on this. Do not buy this product

Hello Johnny, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry our wood stripper didn’t remove the old paint. Typically, our wood stripper can remove sealers, waterproofers, and 100% acrylic latex finishes. I recommend reapplying the wood stripper, leaving it on the surface for 30-40 minutes while maintaining a wet surface, then scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom once the coating starts to lift and rinsing the surface with water. Thoroughly rinsing the surface should help to remove all residue and prevent it from leaving a residue again. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance with this. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni Behr

                          Ineffective product
I think for the value, this product cost 9x more than a bottle and it's marginally better. It's very ineffective. I have followed the instructions the t and it produces very little result. This would be a waste of time and money, trust me. Go with some other paint stripper solution and would recommend to buy it online with 4 or higher stars rated solution.

My pressure washer did a better job by itself
Two 2 hour coats on a 10x10 spot on my deck that was already peeling and it barely made a difference. My pressure washer did more damage to the old paint than the stripper did. Save your money and buy a belt sander.
