after washing your deck with a pressure washer and deck cleaner how long do you wait to use this to waterproof and stain your deck?
Asked by: Lin
That would depend on the conditions. Warm and windy, maybe just 24 hours. Mild and humid, probably 72 hours or more. I let my planter sit for a week after I built it to apply the stain.

Can this stain be applied to new pressure treated boards Will the color match the older pressure treated boards on the deck
Asked by: John
Hi John, Thank you for your question. Our Semi-Transparent Stain can go over new pressure treated boards. However, we don't offer color match since it has a semi-transparent finish. Because of this, the new stain will most likely not match the older boards on the deck. Because of this, it would be best to remove the previous coating or use a Solid Stain (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-gal-SC-330-Redwood-Solid-Color-Waterproofing-Exterior-Wood-Stain-and-Sealer-5033001/300845738) to get a uniform finish. I hope this was helpful, and best of luck. -Edith

can i apply any solid stain over a oil or latax solid stain got both on diiferent parts of my house

I used Olympic last time oil base what do I need this time to keep from peeling
Asked by: stan
Hello stan, Thanks for your question. I can only speak for using Behr stains, but yes, our solid color wood stain can be applied over existing oil- and latex-based stains as long as those existing stains are free of peeling and wear. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes! -Joshua

1 gal. #SC-365 Cape Cod Gray Solid Color Waterproofing Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 255.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stain bubbled and came off with wet weather My husband and I installed a beautiful natural cedar deck in August. After much research I purchased the Behr Waterproofing Stain and Sealer. We followed the directions precisely for preparing the wood and applying the stain. Now, with the wet winter the stain has bubbled and come off. Terrible product! Huge disappointment to have to start over and sand the entire deck and find a new stain, not to mention the cost and labor which will not have to do again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in product I bought this stain & sealer last fall and unfortunately the stain has already pealed up on my railings and high traffic areas. The recommended directions were followed. Sanded used recommended would cleaner and applied according to instructions.

First time I used the humidity was high and it took weeks to dry and not be sticky. This time low humidity, deck dry for 3 days before and 3 days after and worked great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Color and Easy Application I chose the Tugboat solid-color stain from the BEHR Premium Wood Coatings line when I needed to stain my deck. I’d read a lot online that you have to be really careful with stains because they can leave “lap marks,” but I found that the solid stain color was incredibly forgiving and I didn’t have a problem with it at all. It went on smoothly and dried pretty quickly, leaving the wood a beautiful chocolate-y brown hue. Within 24 hours, you can start walking on the deck (light traffic only is recommended) and by 72 hours, it’s fully cured. I worked on it a couple hours a day over a few days, working in the morning before it got too hot (and the bugs came out!), and it proved to be a really straightforward DIY project that I was able to complete all on my own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peeling and cracking Add my voice to those with cracking and peeling issues in spite of following directions exactly. Started after two years. I had hoped the 10 year warranty would have yielded several trouble free years. I have way too much deck to sand and refinish with something else, so I'm going to spot repair with the Behr product. Will warn others not to use the stuff. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Color but WON’T Last We bought this stain 2 years ago. We followed the directions to a “t” for prep and application. They color was initially beautiful but within the season looked dirty and soap and water did not restore it anywhere near original color. After one winter was chipping everywhere. After 2 winters the deck needs totally stripped and restrained. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Looks like new according to our friends. Followed prep instructions. The wood cleaner after pressure washing was the best wood cleaner. The pressure washer got off the surface dirt so the cleaner could do its job.It was over 5 years since the last sealing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell. Applied to a two year old pressure... Time will tell. Applied to a two year old pressure treated pine deck (9’ x 31’) and had just enough for one coat. Application started with a pad, but ended up with a 3” brush, as drips from the pad were too hard to control, whereas, the brush application was best as controlling the finished look.
