Hi Jimmyasksquestions, thanks for reaching out. We don't recommend using a sprayer to apply our Textured DeckOver. Instead, it's best to use a brush or roller for application. Good luck with your project! -Christina

Which finish should I choose if i want it to look like trex decking
      ByJun 11, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi PatL, thank you for your question. Trex decking can have either a smoother or slightly textured appearance, so the best option really depends on the look you’d like to achieve. If you prefer a smoother appearance, I would recommend our DeckOver Smooth. If you’d like a more textured surface, then our DeckOver Textured may be a better fit. Ultimately, either option can work well, and the choice comes down to your personal preference. Have a great day! -Angie

        Answer This Question

Hi Chris, thank you for your question. As it turns out, we wouldn’t recommend using a spray gun/airless sprayer when applying our DeckOver coating. Instead, we suggest using a high-quality nylon/polyester brush or a 1/4”-1/2” nap roller. Have a great day! -Angie

                Garbage, don’t chance it!
Do not use this deck over unless u want a completely rotted deck in 3 yrs. I did all the prep work and then some. It looked fine and upon looking closely, its all lifted & u can peel sheets of it off w your fingers. I have 2 huge decks that I stain every year. I saw deck over & was supposed to last longer. They have a special textured roller & did it all right, just to totally loose my deck now to rot. I cld have neglected it for years & got this result, rather than working my butt off to keep it nice. So I thought…..I am very upset to say the least! I will write the company. They need to take this garbage off the market.

                  Excellent Product
I bought this product in July 2025 and applied it to my weathered old deck. My deck is approximately 15 years old and desperately needed to needed be painted. I chose this particular product because a friend of mine said that it was thick, heavy duty, weathered well, did not peel, and has lasted years on her deck without a problem. I’d only stained my deck once before, and it peeled right off and I’ve never done it again up until this point. I followed the directions meticulously. I cleaned my old deck twice to be sure it was clean and then I let it dry a couple of days. I then painted all of the cracks in my boards, which there were a lot. I painted the boards completely. I went over the boards, a second time and I let it dry. This product dries very quickly. My deck was beautiful when I got done. It is now May 2026. I have an open deck that does not have a covering over it. I live in Michigan and it snowed and weathered all over my deck, the entire winter. There is no peeling or cracking. The paint just looks a little bit dull, but it has lasted all winter. I am super pleased with the outcome of this product. This month I will be going over my deck with a light coating of the same product to just spruce it up not that I have to but because I want to. Buy this product if you need to spruce up old decking, it is phenomenal. I’m going to put some pictures down below from last year and then a picture of my deck from this year. I did tint the decking paint and the color I used is tricorn black by Sherwin-Williams. I used 5 gallon bucket and a one gallon bucket.

The paint was old and had chunks of hard paint in the bucket. I was not happy how the deck came out. The color was wrong. I ordered cape cod grey. This is not that color at all.

Hi KIM. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you ran into with our Advanced DeckOver, and I understand your disappointment. Advanced DeckOver should have a light pudding/yogurt consistency. If chunky, you can stir the product for 3-5 minutes to help. If that does not help, it's best to use a new container. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. If you need further assistance, please reach out to us directly. We are always happy to help! -Alex Behr

                    Not good for deck
I cleaned my deck thoroughly until the last dot of old paint. Painted with Bahr Deck paint. After one year it started to perl off and collect a lot of green mold on it. Would not recommend

Hi Ben, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the coating peeling off and the mold. That's not the experience we want for our customers, and I can understand your disappointment. To get your project looking beautiful again, I recommend sanding off the loose coating, cleaning the surface with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 and allowing the wood to dry completely. Then, apply the recommended two coats following the spread rate. Please reach out to us directly so that we can gather more details about your project and find the best way to help. We look forward to hearing from you! -Giovanna Behr
I know that many people have issues with the DeckOver product but it has really done pretty well as an option for a very worn out deck. Yes it has chipped where we shovel but I think that is to be expected. Overall it has performed pretty well and I've been pleased. I wouldn't use it on a deck in good shape since it is not as pleasing to the eye as stain but it can work to get some more life out of worn-out wood

                      Big Mistake
When I first applied Deck Over, it looked great and believed that I'd found a product that would last with regular maintenance. The problem with this product is that when you're applying it on the deck the planks are so close together that the application doesn't adhere to both sides of the board nor the bottom and water gets under the coating and it bubbles and lifts. I contacted the company and there isn't a product that will dissolve it so they suggest hand sanding and an orbital sanders doesn't work because of the metal screws in each plank. At the presentation time I've applied 2 coats of paint stripper and 2 coats of tar/paint remover and pressure washed it several times. There is still a lot of Deck Over to be removed. My hope is to get enough off to put a couple coats of good deck paint down. If this doesn't work, I guess I'll have to replace my deck. I made a BIG mistake and it was costly!

Garbage!!!!!!! Don’t use if u value your deck.
Do not use on old deck. Nit sure how this holds up on new wood, but over my deck that I spent weeks on prepping it correctly, then putting the 2 coats on with the special textured rollers, my deck all lifted & did y know it. That was 2 summers ago I used this product hoping to not have e to touch up deck every other year. This year I noticed wood eating bugs at night & when I looked closer, the whole thing lifted in sheets so I didn’t notice until I started pulling up corners & whole sheets were coming up. The wood underneath is all rotten & water damaged & bug damage now. I’m just sick of my deck is huge & can’t afford to replace it. That’s why I spent the extra $ to use the deck over the right way. Stay away from this product! A lawsuit should be started over this garbage & the damage it causes even when applied correctly. Thats how upset I am!
