It is not, the only indexing that exists is the opening of the clamp.

I'm about to get one as soon as I press Cart. I can attest to the strength of Ductile Iron (DI). In order to make it ductile it has some elements added to the iron to keep it from getting brittle. Ductile iron is so good that the Austempered mat'l (ADI) version is used for brake calipers and obviously needs to be tough. DI's formula is a pretty exacting specification in order to be called Ductile Iron. As an Engineer I've used it extensively. Good stuff.

What size of Bolts do you need to secure it down? Are they 5/8"?

Is this vise solid or hollow cast? Bought an Irwin from HD that looked just like this one & it broke bcuz it was hollow.

The main shaft is hollow with a 1" screw running through the center. This is heavy duty and will handle most home jobs. One thing to consider though, is that vices are not meant to be used as presses. They are designed to hold things in place, which often does not require much tension on the tightening screw. They are NOT designed for the forces that are applied when pressing things in the vice. Just use reasonable force to hold your work and this vice will serve you well.

I need the internal cast nut the main shaft goes through. Is it available?

This is a perfect bench vice for your HOME use. I read some of the reviews that said it’s not heavy duty enough but I can’t imagine what they’re doing with it? It has more features than most people will ever need. And especially once you factor in the price! I’ve been trying to find one used and you can’t find a decent one for under 100 bucks. For under 100 with tax this is a great buy. By half-inch bolts, lock washers and nuts while you’re there.

Bench Vise
Had my vise for about Five years - then it broke - used the vise regularly for house / garage projects - under normal to moderate use it broke- i had a pipe clamped in there , pretty tight - after several minutes i heard a pop- and the vise developed a weak point and broke - for around the house it is a decent product - the DIY guy or shadetree mechanic - but this made in china product would NOT hold up to professional or commercial use -

The BESSEY Model # BV-MPV5 - 5 in. Multi-Purpose Rotating Pipe and Bench Vise with Swivel Base
The BESSEY Model # BV-MPV5 - 5 in. Multi-Purpose Rotating Pipe and Bench Vise with Swivel Base is a good value for home use. However, it is NOT industrial quality, and requires some re-work to make it more stable and usable. The entire vise, with the exception of the T-handles, slide and top V-jaws, are heavily powder coated. This also includes the mating surfaces of the swivel base, making it difficult to rotate and secure in place. This can be remedied by carefully belt-sanding the paint off both surfaces and applying some grease. The top V-Jaws have only about a 3/8” grip range and do not have a machined gripping surface. The Pipe jaws are part of the casting and are non-replaceable. The are also covered by powder paint requiring the user to file out both the paint and casting flash in the teeth to allow them to actually provide usable grip on any thing round. Overall, as I said above, for $80 it is a good value for home use vise. However, I would NOT recommend it for anyone needing a serious vise for use in any commercial/industrial application. An industrial quality vise of similar design sells for anywhere from $180 to $250. So bottom line, this vise, with a little work can be made to work ok for home use.

Low quality with Bessey name cast in
Poor casting, poor machining, weak jaws. Going to return. Fooled by Bessey name that was previously well respected.

I bought this for my son and he loves it. Started using it right away. This vice has 2 jaws: one for round material and another flat like a typical vice. The heads flip over to any position and are locked in on the side. He’s very happy with it.

This is a medium duty swivel vise. It is well constructed for a home vise. It was a little stiff out of the box but a small application of grease fixed it. It does not come with mounting bolts.
