Questions & Answers

Would this work for an out of control 50 year over grown rose bush ?

This amazingly gorgeous mass of a rose plant/bush stands about 10 feet tall . I need to take about 3 feet of the circumfrance but it's a serious task to stand near those thorns . The branches I could barely lopper by hand
Asked by: Tryin2TakeBackTheYard
mine ran a little hot after using it for 2 hours to trim along over grown fence line , maybe it will work on rose bush, you might have to give a break every 15 minutes or so

The details say no assembly is required but several reviews say assembly was easy ( implying some assembly is required) what is the answer, assembly required or no? Also how does its power at 3.3 amps compare with the power of the 22 inch model that has 4 amps?
Asked by: hr
Have to attach the handle. Two screws. Easy. And attach an extension cord of course.

Why do the specs for the B&D hedge trimmer (HH2455) say that a 12-gauge extension cord is minimally required at 100' when it is only 3.3 amps? The experts tell me that 16-gauge at 100' is good for up to 10 amps. Which is correct?
Asked by: EasilyConfused
Quite simply put, it's not the amp capacity that is at matter here but more of what is called "voltage drop" or "loss" that occurs as the cord is longer. So when they say you a minimum length of 12 gauge cord for 100 ft length, that calculates in the expected "voltage" drop over that 100 feet of cord. If you went another 50 or 100 feet, you may need a 10 gauge or 8 gauge cord, but it probably is not recommend to do this, I was just giving an example. Also, the longer the cord, the more "resistance' for the electric to flow through the cord, even at 3.3 stated amps. Trust the design engineers when they advise on what cord to use. If you do have 10 gauge cord at 100 feet, your hedge cutter will last longer and work easier by getting the fullest voltage and amps that it is supposed to. But can use the 12 gauge cord as specified.

It did a great job cutting up to its rated 3/4-inch capacity. It cut so fast and easy. It would have taken me all day with hand shears instead of minutes with this electric trimmer. I like the light weight of electric tools to include the reduced maintenance and cost over gasoline power tools. So I don't have to deal with miles of extension cords, I use a small Honda generator to power my electric power tools outdoors. The Honda generator was actually quieter than this trimmer. Hearing protecting would be a good idea if using this trimmer for several hours.

Today is my second time using it. When the switch does not jam....it works like a charm. But after it runs for 15 minutes...it needs to rest. The motor may have overheated. I am not an electrical diagnostician. I am a homeowner whose hedges needs trimming. Now the job is half done...the hedge trimming is incomplete. I cannot get it to start again...so I either have to call a landscape service or go buy another hedger. Not happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First invention usually best way I have lots of hedges so I Know what works and this one does. Plenty of power, easy to hold, quiet, and a bonus. First, if you hold by the handle it balances almost perfect. it cuts very nice, almost professional . The bonus is if you hold it a certain way you get a breeze from the motor spinning, pretty cool. The rotating handle makes it easy to hold. If you notice this trimmer is skinny and long and the first invented ones 60 years ago were made the same way, it was for perfect balance when holding it. So it looks like the first way they invented was still the best way. Yes this one cost 20 dollars more but you will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent right out of the box! My hand me down 20 year old trimmer from my dad crapped out in the middle of yard work. Quickly sorting through trimmers at HD I saw this was highly rated and affordable so I went for it. Right out of the box this this made quick and easy work of a bush that the old trimmer had difficulty with. Pretty lightweight (IMO) and the ability to turn the handle is a very nice feature. Two thumbs up B

I had to trim two feet off of a Holly Bush (yeah, even with gloves my arms were pretty chewed up) and trim brush growth in a 10 foot narrow strip between house and fence. Hedge trimmer did a great job. Heavy enough so it's easy to control, light enough to hold for long periods.

Be aware that the actual length of the cutting section of the blade is 21 in., not 24 in. The higher number must be including the structural portion of the metal that fastens to the trimmer body, but does not cut. Other than that, I like the product.
