BRK's Hardwire Ionization Sensor Smoke Alarm detects flaming fires and runs on a battery backup when your power is out. This alarm will sound if it detects smoke even during power outages. It is made for hardwire installation and uses a 9-Volt backup battery. The ionization sensor detects fast flaming fires that consume combustible materials. Other features include a test and silence button, a latching indicator that remembers which unit initiated the alarm and smart technology that helps reduce false alarms. The 9120B can be connected to 18 devices including, 12 compatible smoke alarms and 6 compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters and door closers. If 1-unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. The 9120B features a perfect mount system with a gasket-less base for easy installation, a new mounting bracket that keeps the alarm secure over a wide rotation range for perfect alignment and a mounting bracket lock for tamper resistance. A dust cover keeps the unit clean during construction. Engineered for residential and institutional use, this detector is perfect for dormitories and multi-family dwellings. The only disadvantage I noticed was a smaller diameter outer cover mounting which could end up exposing paint differences on the ceiling, but otherwise a solid device which is not over sensitive as might be the case with the other Technologies

These were replacements for a set of 10 year old BRK units I already had. Only thing I had to change were the trim rings which were slightly larger than the older ones, and that was a 2 screw loosen and tighten operation. Basically it was a plug and play replacement. If they perform like the old units there should be no issues.

Great Replacement Smoke Detectors
My house is 20 years old with direct wire smoke detectors. The old smoke detectors had a direct wire harness that easily plugged into the back of the detector. I pulled the old detector and got the manufacturer's name (BRK) off the back and researched it on the internet. Fortunately Home Depot carries them in this 6-pack. I ordered the 6-pack on line and received them in 3-4 days. The installation is a breeze - just replace the mounting bracket on the ceiling and the old harness plugged right into the back of the new detector. I replaced all six detectors in my house in about 30 minutes time at a cost of about $12 each. The 6-pack also comes with the back up batteries and the pig tail wiring harnesses so you can just wire nut them into your existing wiring if you don't have the same harness already in place. Great Price and easy install... what more could you want? I highly recommend this product!
