Product Overview

Reed fencing is a budget-friendly material that can be used for all sorts of application adding texture and a dynamic aesthetic to your home and garden. Backyard X-Scapes sustainable and eco-friendly Reed screen fence is constructed from freshwater reed that grows abundantly along river banks, wetlands, and estuaries. The pre-assembled fence panels are carefully woven together by vinyl coated wire to ensure durability while remaining seamless. Unlike bamboo fence, the individual reed diameters vary between 1/8” x 1/4”, which makes this reed screen garden fence lightweight and easy to handle. Perfect to use as a divider, to cover unattractive old fencing, hide your unsightly pool equipment, or use as a garden screen to create spaces. Excellent for indoors or outdoors, use it as trade show backdrops, convention events, kids rooms, Hawaiian parties, and most any tropical themed oriented design. Even though Reed fence is not designed to be used as a privacy fence, we suggest using multiple layers of Reed fencing to add more coverage to your space.
  • Constructed of eco-friendly, freshwater reed and vinyl-coated wire
  • Adds a tropical aesthetic to your landscape or pool area
  • Provides a privacy screen for your home and yard
  • Pre-assembled for your convenience
  • Easily connect additional panels by tying them together with wire
  • Item may need to be gently stretched to achieve size; approximately 16 ft. long

Hello Jess, Thank you for your interest in backyard X-Scapes products, I will be glad to assist you with your question. With proper instillation and well placed depending where it's also located, I believe there shouldn't be any issues with the product not lasting five years minimum, it's also held together with wires in between the bamboo fence. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. Thank you!

Hello there, thank you for your interest in backyard X-Scapes products, I will be glad to assist you with your question. For privacy we don't recommend a reed fence its more for décor. If installed make sure its behind a chicken wire fence if not your dog will go through it normally for this case we would go for a bamboo fence which is stronger and will hold for longer time. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. Thank you!

Haven't a clue but its 3 foot tall 16 foot long. I think 6 foot means putting one over top the other since you get 2 spools.

It will make it thru one storm.....maybe 6 storms....but it's reed....not very sturdy....it will discolor very quickly...and become flimsy, reading will separate.....the bamboo would have been far better if looking for longevity.....I was very disappointed in the reed fencing!!!!

How hard would it be to put on top of our half gazebo to keep sun out and be able to take down in winter?

It comes rolled up, so it would be easy to manipulate. Don't plan on cutting it because it is wired together. Would be perfect for a sun screen, tho.

This summer has included several, days-long hot spells here in San Jose, Ca. Temps were in the very high 90's and low 100's. Hot for this area. My 60+ year old house has no insulation in the side walls. I used this reed material as shade for the south side of the house. I draped sections of this fencing sideways from the eaves, using two 6 foot 1x2 boards to sandwich the material and hung it from the eaves with air space between it and the wall. This kept the house much cooler during the hottest days.

Arrived in good condition. We used it as a privacy screen on our back deck. We wanted to allow for plenty of light and air to come through and, it’s perfect for that. If you wanted a less “see-thru” screen, you would need to double up or, buy a larger thicker type of bamboo.

Not complete privacy but good
if you really want to block out neighbors get the large Reed bamboo wall even though it is more expensive. This looks good but won't 100% block out people.

For $250, I get a brand new looking fence stapled over old existing wood and zip-tied to chain link. Rather than spend $5,000+ on a new fence. Goes up in a few hours. Easy to install.

This is the second Backyard X-Scapes 6 ft. H x 16 ft. L reed fencing we have purchased because we are so pleased with the value for the money. The first reed fencing panel lasted for three years before fading and looking ragged, but to be fair it was outside through several harsh northeast winters. We zip tied one end to the chain link fence pole and my husband and I worked together to evenly "stretch" the fencing to the next pole, secure with zip ties, and then stretch back over to the original position. A 16ft panel will cover one standard 8ft chain link fence panel in two layers of privacy. Works beautifully. Would recommend to anyone seeking an inexpensive privacy solution for a chain link fence.

We have a Tiki Bar theme around the pool area. We use this to cover the existing fence for atmosphere. Usually need's to be replaced every 2 years, due to sun damage. We have tried staining, which will get you a few extra months of use.

Hide the Junk
I bought this to hide the junk yard my roommates dad has at our house. We have a small part of the yard cleaned out and I wanted it to be a proper area to hangout without having to look at the mess. When I first started putting the fencing up I realized it was very see through, barely hiding the mess. I ended up using brown tarp behind it to make the fencing no longer see through which worked perfectly! If you’re buying this know it’s see through and you’ll either need multiple layers or come up with another idea like I did.
