Questions & Answers

Could you cut it in half (width wise) or would it come apart?

Asked by: Tim
You can cut it in half but you will need to twist the wire after cutting or it will fall apart. It is held together by inter woven wire around each reed.

Do you need to put something on the bottom of the reed fencing to prevent the bottom from rotting? IE : brick , stone , etc? I was thinking maybe just attach it an inch or so off the ground? Thank you all
Asked by: PitbullMike
Hi, thank you for your question, I will be glad to assist you with this matter. We suggest to install the Reed Fence few inches above the ground so it prevents the bottom of the fencing to rotten. You can use zip-ties or staples to install the Reed fencing. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

It will not block view unless you have at least 2 layers. I use two layers then use some burlap, like curtains, to hang on it where I need more privacy. We use it around our pool. It will eventually darken and if it has been secured well from the wind, will last as long as you want to keep it up. I like the darker color it gets with age and usually in the past have thrown it away and bought more each year because it's so inexpensive. We spread it along metal fence posts every 5 feet or so and secure with 16g steel gal wire. It's nice that it's so long and just tall enough. This year I left most of it that didnt get damaged in place, and added to it. The Home Depot price is comparable and better than most. The photo's depict two layers and you can see that in one photo, what one would see from the road and it isn't much. I also add small solar spot lights from the street view side to shine on the fence and that also helps with privacy at night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Update To My Last Review After a year it has turned greyish. I live in MIami. I used thompson's water seal on it when I first put it up. I have 2 choices. I can paint it with outdoor deck type paint/stain or, I can put another layer of this fence up. I tried putting a little of this kind of paint on some hidden test spots that get full sun and rain and 3 mo. later it has adhered and not chipped even though I heard this type of fence can't be painted. Rather than paint it though I'm going to put a 3rd layer of this fence on and instead of zip ties ( several have snapped ) I'm using galvanized ( rust resistant ) wire. I can just hook it through and back, then twist and tuck the end so I wont have to go on the neighbors property. A 3rd layer will look good for awhile and make the fence not at all see through. Right now 2 layers is about 85% " non-see through " which is good enough. You would really have to try hard to see through it. When it turns grey again down the road I'll paint it. Still very happy with the stuff!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great fix to my chain link fence I was looking for an inexpensive fix for my chain link fence and the view of my neighbors yard. I read the reviews on a lot of items and this one seemed to receive great raves. I purchased it online and it was delivered to my house in less than a week. A friend recommended that I use T-posts for added height and support, since my chain link fence was 4ft. I found them at my local farm supply store. If you do this, I suggest you buy a T-post pounder, it makes the job a lot easier. I used zip ties to attach the fencing to the posts and chain link fence. I did the entire project on my own in a couple hours. It is a lot more sturdy than I thought it would be. If you want added privacy I would double up the fence, which I did in certain areas that were eye sores. It has stormed several times, including hail, and it has no damage at all. I am very pleased with the outcome. I will probably take it down in the winter and put it back up in the spring. May get a longer use out of it that way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes a great screen on a chain link fence I have a neighbor with a messy yard which could be seen through my chain link fence. I attached this reed fencing with zip ties to the chain link fence on my side of the yard. (I did understand that this reed fencing is not supposed to be 100% private, especially because it is made of natural reeds that are woven together.) For the cost of $24 to cover 16 linear feet of fence it is well worth it. I planted a flower bed in front of a section of it and pea gravel with raised fieldstone beds planted with perennial grasses & cannas in front of another section. It really looks great with grasses and gives it a real tropical look. Not only does it help contain soil/stone/mulch, etc. but it makes a lovely backdrop for plants...especially perennial grasses, rudbeckia (black-eyed susans) and daylilies. A neighbor commented on how great it looks and I am installing one for someone else. I can email photos if anyone is interested. I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 because it is lightweight...lighter than bamboo so some of the reeds can bend & break. It really is a screen, not an actual fence.

Well I just finished putting a water sealer on it to delay the graying process but I know that it will eventually happen no matter what. I am about ready to put it on top of a arbor over my pond. This bamboo is very small and wired up pretty good but don't expect it to hold much weight and its probably better used as fencing or to hide something. It is 6 foot wide and 16 foot long but I only needed 12 feet so I will have extra. Hopefully it holds up for several years.I am suing it as a cover over pond to keep out birds of prey from my Koi and to reduce the sun hitting the pond to reduce algae growth. Let it be know that this will not block out all light since there are plenty of gaps in the reed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't Beat The Price ! Took me 60 min to install on my own. Would have been easier with help and access to the other side of the fence but no help and didnt want to bug the neighbors to go on their property. I kept the product role folded in half for a double layer. I unrolled it from the way it came and rolled it in the other direction. I kept unrolling it as I went so I could reach around the role to the other side of the fence for the zipties. I installed it on a 3' chin link fence but started it about 2" off the ground by placing two folded up lawn chairs under it as I went down the fence. The grass will cover the gap and this will give me 2" more of privacy on top. I used about 150 6" clear zip ties at the top of the chainlink fence and again half way down it, about 1' apart all the way down. I finished off with spraying it all with thompson's water seal. i got it for privacy since from my one side yard you can see a pedestrian bridge that goes over the water behind my house and lots of people go over it all day. You def want two layers of this! If you have help and access to both sides of the fence, even 3 layers would be amazing. i used two.

My neighbors have kids on both sides of me. I put the reed fencing up along my entire backyard fence. It looks very nice, its see thru but it gives a sense of privacy. My main goal was to keep everybody at ease me having a large dog and all. Had a huge wind storm the other day. A lot of tree limbs fell (large ones) but the reed fencing is still standing strong. I'm hoping it stands strong until next spring. If so I'll by another fresh set and place it over the current one for extra privacy,

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dwindling product quality I have made three orders for this reed fencing over the last several weeks. The first was acceptable considering the price and the fact that it inherently will not stand close inspection. The second had more staining along the edges and more crushed or missing reeds. The third had even more of the same problems and had an additional problem with the wire binding. There were a half-dozen places where the weaving machine had lost tension on the wire resulting in loops of wire and reeds not being properly held in place. One spot in the center of the roll featured a 10" long tail of loose wire with the matching wire missing. Re-weaving this made for a very difficult repair. I also had to repair several places on all three units that had reeds that tapered to zero before reaching the edges of the panel.
