About This Product

Bees need you, Native Bees are the most prolific pollinators on the planet but because of habitat loss, their population is declining. A solitary native bee can pollinate several thousand blooms per day, regardless of chilly or cloudy weather and because their focus is pollination, they do not produce honey or beeswax and make friendly, non-aggressive garden partners. Hand-crafted from FSC certified pine and bamboo, this bee house is sealed with a non-toxic water base finish. Its Bamboo tubes are designed to mimic the holes found in the wild. Once a female bee establishes her home, she will lay her eggs, fill the tubes with pollen and seal off the entrance with mud so her young can grow safely until next spring.

Highlights

  • 12 in. tower with 90 plus tubes for bees to lay their young

Q:If I live in Florida, do I still need to put the house in a shed (as per instructions on label) in October or can I leave it up year round?

      Answer This Question

A:  The temperature fluctuations are especially confusing when it can get to below freezing one day and be in the mid-80s the next. It is better to follow the instructions. you can also double check with Bee-Keepers in your area.

A:  I've heard one reason to store it in the garage or shed is to make it less vulnerable to predators. They also recommended placing it in a mesh bag (or wrapping it in mesh cloth). There are a lot of YouTube videos on caring for Mason Bees.

Q:What do you do and how do you care for a bumblebee ?

          Answer This Question

A:  This kind of house is for Mason bees. They don't make honey, but they are important pollinators. YouTube channels / videos you might find useful: https://www.youtube.com/@CrownBees https://www.youtube.com/@RentMasonBees https://youtu.be/FCmK8P6sWf4

A:  First and foremost a bumblebee’s diet is made up of pollen and nectar from flowers, so the best way to help bumblebees and other pollinating insects is to grow plenty of bee-friendly flowers, especially during bumblebee season (between March and October). Pollen and nectar contain all of the essential nutrients bumblebees need, as well as providing protein for growth and carbohydrates for energy. you can also check with your local nursery for assistance.

This little Bee House was easy for me to put up on the outside of my detached garage below the soffit and it looks great with my wind chimes, bird feeders and bird houses in the area. I just got it so the bees haven't found it yet, but with all the mass of purple coneflowers I have directly under it and in the courtyard, I expect they'll find it when they're ready for it. They're very busy bees right now...

                Waste of Money
At least is was for me. Paper wasps took over. Also read another review on here that they're really only meant as a one time use item. Disappointed because I really wanted to help the bees, just not the bad ones.

A very good starter bee house. Economical, functional, attractive. An added container below the house provides a close location to place bee cocoons.

Good Price. Other stores sold them for over $30. We have had this up for 4 days. The mason bees have made their home in our walls of our house. They get in through the cracks in the siding. We are hoping they will decide to move into their new home we bought.
