I think a paint stripper with a single edge razor blade would get it off.

Just slide the door and they will fall off, or if you have the newer ones, they will fall off in your hand when you flip them.

My experience in investigating burglaries has lead me to believe that burglars, generally are lazy. That is, they do not wish to work at breaking into your home. Pry a hatch and slide the window up, viola!, he's in. Pry the hatch and realize there is another piece of hardware they have to deal with, they will go to your next door neighbor. Which is (sadly for your neighbor) where you want the lazy burglar to go. The locking pin issue is really an non issue. The fact that there is an additional "bar" stopping movement of the window/door opening is enough of a deterrent to the lazy burglar that the pin failure doesn't matter and at @$5.00 a pair, these are easily a great way to defeat the lazy burglar! I've also found that one Bandit Bar per sash window is enough. Light on a timer, deadbolt on doors, Bandit Bars and you can be reasonably comfortable that the lazy burglar will move on. Not a guarantee but very good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use and effective with one major issue I love the convenience of using this lock. Simply flip it up and it's on. Because it's easy, you will use it each time you lock the patio door. This is much better than a key or pin lock that you will not use because its too much trouble. It's also effective as it stops the door from sliding. I use two of these locks on each of my sliding patio doors. Installation is easy - just use the enclosed tape to tape it to your door. Just make sure to put it in the right place (tip: glue it in closed state to find best position). Now for the bad part: the lock has this flimsy spring to keep it in the locked position. The spring has a round head that goes in a plastic slot. This works great IF you remember to pull the spring out each time before flipping the plastic piece down. The first time you forget and lower the plastic piece without pulling the spring first, the round head will break, and then the lock would not close as firmly. Despite my best effort to remember to pull the spring, I broke two of them on the second day after installation! I'm sure even if I remembered, a family member or a visitor will break it soon enough. This is a major flaw in the design of this lock. I wish the manufacturer would address it - maybe pull the spring out automatically when the plastic piece is lowered or use better material in the spring so it does not just snap the second you forget to pull it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bandit Bar - Poor Quality Now - Used to be Good I have been using this product for the past 30 years. Current manufacture of these Bandit Bars are of very poor quality compared to their original product. The release pin is now made of a fragile plastic pin that almost crumbles in your fingers when pulling on them to release hinge. The new release pins typically break within the same day you install the bar on your window. I called Barton-Kramer, the manufacturer, and they really couldn't care whether their product worked or not. Just another example of a good product that was redesigned to save a penny and now has a very short useful lifetime.
