A: I am not exactly sure but I read: the slot or space is filled with a compound made of cement, aggregate and water referred to as mortar. One of the main purposes of mortar is to act as a bonding agent between the blocks.

Great product. Used as "holder" for tent canopy metal legs and anchors with quickrete anchor cement

Used as the base to anchor 6 tent canopy tubular steel poles (and the tent anchors) into concrete filled blocks. I used Quikrete anchoring cement to pour the concrete into each block (after first cutting a cardboard shape to put at the bottom. Poured about a pint in each block (working around each block so by the time I got to the first one again, the concrete was "softy aged". This allowed me to put bent anchors (with loops) in each block when the hardened level would match having the loop just outside the block. Gave me 35+ pounds of anchor at each post and by pouring it a bit "higher" at the top, water runs off. Worked great!
