Great on the go product! My job requires me to connect an assortment of wires together out in the field, this kit was perfect for that on the go ability! Great prouct. Just be sure not to forget the can of butane to go with it!

Nice item. Seems to do the job pretty well. I was surprised at how fast the soldering tips heated and the heat capacity they have. The only reason for 4 stars is that it is difficult to start on low setting. Usually have to increase flow, start and the turn down. Other than that I'm pleased with it.

Works for certain jobs
I would like to begin by saying that I love this brand nevertheless this product I am not satisfied with. In my case I felt that there wasn’t enough information to clarify that this product is intended for short periods of use. I was not aware of this and therefore began a long project of shouldering an entire CNC machine, about a quarter of the way and I had to change tips and to my surprise the component of the hot air attachment just fell apart. This left me unable to use heat shrink and therefore the main reason why I purchased this product was no longer a feature! I wanted to mention that I personally love this brand and I had very high hopes for this product as I felt that it had great range of features. Nevertheless I do feel that the product was not intended for such an intense use and left me hanging. If you have a large prphect you may do yourself a favor looking elsewhere. If you just need something to get you out of a pinch, I think this might work for you.

I was excited to receive this cordless soldering iron. I have worked on so many projects where a corded soldering iron was a pain to use, the most recent re-wiring my boat trailer where I had to fuse the taillights to the main wiring harness then cover with heat-shrink tubing to may watertight. Upon opening the box and reading through the instructions I was ready to it out. Wait, where is the butane. Oh, right on the box it states the butane is not included. So off to Home Depot for a 5.5 ounce can of butane. There was some trial and error using this soldering iron and wish the included instructions were better. The can of butane does not seal well against the soldering iron fill valve and difficult to tell when full or if even filling. The ignition trigger works well and soldering iron heats up quickly, and the flame is easily adjustable using the adjustment knob. The kit contains four soldering tips, a .6 ounces of electrical solder, cleaning sponge and storage case. I look forward to using this portable soldering iron on future projects where an electrical cord is inconvenient.

Over the years I've accumulated a large number of soldering irons, all of them A/C powered with the exception of one battery powered unit. I ordered this Bernzomatic kit mainly for the Pinpoint Flame Micro Torch feature but this kit includes everything you'll need for most small electrical soldering jobs, less the butane fuel. They recommend using Bernzomatic butane but I only had Ronson butane on hand and it filled the torch and works perfectly. The tips interchange easily without the need for tools and the unit fires up quickly. There's an adjustment knob, below the continuous flame lock switch, that controls the heat setting. There's a Hot Air setting, that can be used with or without the heat shrink tip, that's perfect for applying heat shrink tubing. I'm not sure how often I'll use this around the house for soldering since my shop desk has a soldering work station setup but for jobs away from my home this is a welcomed addition to my tool box. Bernzomatic offers a one year warranty and Home Depot offers a 90 day return policy.

First impression is this is a quality tool and looks the part but does it work? It works great, it's easy to light since it has piezoelectric ignition and it feels good in your hands. What you get in the kit: The soldering iron body 4 changeable tips; 2 small pointed, large and small chisel points Wrap around tip for shrink tube 0.40 lead free solder 0.6 oz Cup with sponge (tip cleaning) Clear safety cap / cover Very nice heavy duty storage case The soldering iron is easy to set up and has the power to do most soldering jobs and is small enough to get into smaller areas. Since this iron has a variable flame it's easy to adjust the temperature to suit your jobs demands. The iron has an adjustment from 1 to 4 and seems to be comparable to a 25 to 60 watt electric iron. The iron is very comparable in size and weight to a 60 watt electric and has the same weight and balance. The iron feels good in your hands; it's easy to ignite and has a switch for intermittent or constant heat. The iron heats up very fast, in less than 60 seconds your ready to start soldering on your project. This is so much faster than an electric iron. It also has the capacity to heat larger connections. I did a solder joint on a 10 gauge wire onto a Deans plug with no problem (see photos). This is not only a soldering iron but with the wrap around tip you can easily do shrink tube insulation. Since the iron is cordless you can take it anywhere and do jobs almost anyplace and you'll never be fighting a cord or the hassle of finding a plug in or extension cord. I only found two small problems with the iron. It didn’t come filled with Butane and the irons built in stand won't hold the iron up when on constant heat, it wants to roll on its side. Using a simple wire stand cures the roll over issue. Other than that this soldering iron is a superb tool. Highly recommend.

There are many things to like about this Soldering iron 1) NO CORDS!! - I LOVE a life without cord. Especially....when you are working with items that are this HOT. I consider this a matter of safety.....NO CORDS = SAFER 2) QUICK HEAT - I feel like this gas operated unit heats up quicker than a corded electric iron. I think it takes about 35-45 seconds until the unit is ready. It has 4 different heat setting 3) KIT - You can purchase this iron by itself or in a kit. For me, it's a no brainer. I like having all my soldering needs together in a KIT 4) Versatile - This can be used as a soldering iron, mini - torch and you can use it to shrink heat shrinking tube. THIS KIT DOES NO INCLUDE GAS.....MAKE SURE YOU PICK UP A CAN OF GAS WHILE YOU ARE AT HOME DEPOT

The Bernzomatic ST550 Cordless Soldering Iron Kit comes with everything you need but fuel. The kit itself is straightforward and contains the tools you need for hobby and precision work around the house. The kit comes with a storage container that snaps shut and keeps things organized. It’s not extravagant, but it doesn’t need to be and is rather effective. The directions are simple enough to follow and help you get started quickly. Directions include a key to the parts of the torch but the legend for the key is spread throughout the directions and grouped according to operation. There is a key to the different heads but it is located on the side of the packaging and not in the directions. I cut out that part of the box and placed it inside the storage box although you probably only need to identify the heads once. There are Micro Torch, Fine Soldering, Blower, Chisel, and heat shrink tips and/or attachments and a handy container of thin electrical solder. A well designed protective cap that locks the Torch is included as well but the protective cap must be stored separately in the storage box and not in place on the torch. The Bernzomatic Torch is lightweight and feels more like a lighter than a tool. It is, as a result, easy to use and is not tiring to work with. The on/off switch can be locked in the on position and used as a work stand. My granddaughter and I need to make some repairs on a smart car kit we've been assembling and this is the perfect tool for that. All in all this is a very nice and handy Micro Torch Kit.

Cordless Soldering Iron And MORE
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a hobbyist, I found the Benzomatic Soldering Iron a very useful surprise. At first look, it is a soldering iron, but upon closer inspection you'll find it is also a hot air blower and micro torch. Three great tools in one! I love that this product is cordless. I hate having to fight the cord on my old soldering iron. The self igniting feature is a nice touch. No need for external flame to light the flame. The flame was easily adjustable and can be locked for continuous use. My only disappointment was the size of the fuel tank, but I understand the tank size is relevant to the size of the soldering iron. I used the hot air blower to coat some bare wires with heat shrink and it worked perfectly. I would recommend this Cordless Soldering Iron to any hobbyist.
