Questions & Answers

Can this soldering iron be used to sweat copper fittings?

I need something versatile - i dont have enough use for a proper plumbers torch and a soldering iron - but I do need to join copper pipes sometimes, and want a soldering kit for my hobby work.
Asked by: Pax
No. There is not adequate heat generated to sweat and solder a copper pipe. It is useful for my intended purpose which is doing work on my model train layout.

Can I use this to desolder?

Can I use this to desolder?
Asked by: Theo
If you are working on electronics yes, but I would recommend some soldering wick. You put the wick on the joint, heat the wick, the heat goes through the wick and melts the solder, the melted solder flows into the hot wick and your are desoldered.
