      A:  When using oil based liquids, a solvent like mineral spirits should be used in a two-step process. Using a brush comb, repeatedly dip/rinse the brush in the mineral spirits, combing regularly to remove paint from the interior of the brush as well. After several rounds, rinse the brush in clean mineral spirits, using the brush comb again to make sure all paint has been removed. Repeat this process as necessary until the brush rinses clean. If you are then going to use the brush in a water based product, you should wash the bristles with a small amount of dishwashing soap and warm (not hot) water at the very end, to remove any residual solvent.
